Corey M. Artis

Corey Maurice Artis was born on February 3, 1970 in Baltimore, Maryland to Vera Artis and the late Joseph Artis, Sr. Corey received his education in Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Patterson High School in May 1989. Corey went on to pursue his degree in electrical engineering at Morgan State University. After a year at Morgan, Corey discovered that he'd rather become certified in the field of Computer Technology and successfully completed Tesst College of Baltimore. Corey demonstrated academic excellence in school and was very inquistive, always eager to learn something new. If Corey did not have a full understanding of something, he would research it Corey was employed full-time by Utiliquest in Baltimore, Maryland at the time of his death. In previous years, he held several other positions as a CDL truck driver, maintenance technician, and production/forklift operator. He strived to perform at an exceptional level in anything he set forth to do. Any company that Corey worked for would characterize him as being a very diligent and dependable worker. Those who encountered Corey almost immediately took a liking to him and would say how funny and easy-going he was. He most frequently hung with his uncles, nephews, and “Bucktown” friends. Corey was a friend to many and a brother to all. Corey took pride in his appearance, and that of all things of which he had. His most prized possessions were his two daughters, his fish, and his automobiles. Corey was a devoted father and grandfather. He beamed with pride as he witnessed his oldest Jazmyne (Big Jazz) graduate from Coppin State University with honors. His youngest daughter Jasmine (Lil' Jas), shared a special father-daughter relationship. He took interest in saltwater fish and would constantly add to his beautiful aquarium. He later took on the hobby of riding motorcycles and took classes in preparation to ride his own. Corey has always been a believer, but through the witness of his Aunt “Bea”, he renewed that faith by believing and confessing his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Corey lived a full life in a short time and after a brief illness, he departed this life on Friday, February 20, 2015 at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Corey leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted mother Vera D. Artis; his grandmother Vera Thigpen; two daughters, Jazmyne J. Artis (Kenneth Burton), and Jasmine A. Artis; one grandson, Kaiden S. Burton; one brother, Joseph E. Artis, Jr.; two sisters, Tawanda Artis-Davis, and Tonya D. Thames; two brother-in-laws, Foster Davis, Jr., and Michael Thames, Jr.; one sister-in-law, Allegra Artis; five uncles, Gregory Boyd, Robert Hopkins, Willie J. Thigpen, Warren E. Thigpen, and Bobbie H. Thigpen; four aunts, Mary Boyd, Beatrice Hopkins, Trudy Thigpen, and Betty Thigpen; four nephews, Darren Blackwell, Kevin Hall, Avery Artis, and Aaron Betts Forby; eight nieces, Christalyn Betts, Tamara Artis, Davina Artis, Frayzelle Artis, Jordyn Terrel, Aiyanna Artis, Khylee Hall, and Nyla Betts; and a host of other close relatives, neighbors and special friends.
