Cora Lee Johnson

On Saturday, December 17, 2016, Jesus said, “Come Unto Me and Rest”, she listen and obeyed. Cora Lee Johnson was born July 24, 1924 in Georgia to the late Amelia M. and John McKnight. Cora was formerly a elevator operator at the Jefferson Hotel and a Private Duty Nurse for many years. She loved caring for people and making sure that they were well cared for. She confessed her faith in God and aspired to learn more about God as she read the “Daily Bread”. She was the life of any party and enjoyed entertaining often. She welcomed the joy of fellowship with family and friends. If there was music in the air then you knew that Cora was going to get up and dance. Music was a big part of her life and the calmness of her spirit. “GG” as she was so fondly called by her grands was a caring person that was very family involved and loved spending time with her grands. She would be out in her yard often taking care of her garden. In fact, she was still cutting her own grass at 74. Every year her husband and her would go to their summer resort, Indian Acres for the last 20 plus years to enjoy their weekends and quiet time together. They also enjoyed cruising every chance they could. Even though she could not drive, if her daughter was in the car she would make sure she was in there to go, especially when it came to Maryland. GG touched the lives of so many people with her loving heart and untold compassion for others. She had a glorious smile that could highlight a room when she walked in. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Reubin H. Johnson; son, Walter L. Barnes and first husband, Robert J. Barnes. She leaves to cherish her memory two caring daughters, Carolyn Brown (Fred) and Francine Pleasants; loving son, Gerald Barnes; three stepchildren, Lloyd Johnson (Frances), Ronald Johnson (Rose) and Roxanne Wolf (Tim); four grandchildren, John Morgan, III (Monic), Brian A. Morgan, Stephanie Barnes and Shawndale Terry (LaShonda); four great-grandchildren, Briana Morgan, Maia Morgan, Brian Morgan, Jr. and Jada Terry; one great great-grandson, Kamari Morgan, devoted daughter-in-law, Renay Barnes; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends.
