Cora Brodie

Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.On January 22, 2003, God dispatched an angel from heaven to the home of Mrs. Cora Brodie and whispered to her. “Peace Be Thine”. She closed her eyes to the world, and awakened in to her home beyond the skies, where there will be no more sickness, and no more pain.Cora Brodie blessed the world with her presence on February 25, 1929, born to the late Junius and Winnie Bowden in Granville County, North Carolina. She was the third of four daughters, two sisters preceded her in death. She was educated in the North Carolina Public School System. Cora gave her life to Christ at an early age, attending Union A.M.C. Zion Baptist Church in Wilton, North Carolina.On October 2, 1952 in Franklin County, North Carolina. She was united in matrimony to Foster G. Brodie who preceded her in death. God blessed this union with eight children, three boys, Donnell, James and Larry; five girls, Brenda, Linda, Sharon, Frances, Diane; and one stepson, Foster G. Brodie Jr.Cora moved to Baltimore, Maryland in the late 1940’s, where she became a member of New Shiloh Baptist Church in 1970 until the date of her passing. “I trust in the Lord,” was one of her many beloved hymns, and she treasured Psalm 23.Cora was affectionately known as “Mumma, Grandma, great-granny and Miss Susie”. She had a quiet loving spirit.There were three important elements in Cora’s life: her family, her friends and her church. She lit a match in the darkness of each element and planted it in every one she touched. She nurtured through trials and rejoiced in the glow of triumphs. Always upper most in her daily life was her caring, love and devoted concerns she met along lifes way.Her children can call her “Blessed” for her love for them has left and indelible impression upon their lives. One of her primary joys was the close intimate relationship she had with all of her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and the love and devotion they had for her. Her relatives will miss her, strength, wisdom, encouragement, and loving glow.Heaven is receiving one who found great delight in living her life to the glory and praise of Christ our Lord.She leaves to cherish her memory: Donnell , James , Larry Brodie from Durham, North Carolina; Brenda Brodie, Linda Blackwell, Sharon Brodie, Frances Brodie, Diane Brodie, of Baltimore, Maryland, and one stepson, Foster G. Brodie Jr. from Las Vegas, Nevada; thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one son-in-law, Dwight Blackwell, from Baltimore, Maryland; two daughters-in-law, Beverly and Vickie Brodie from Durham, North Carolina; one dedicated sister, Marylou Brodie from Durham, North Carolina; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
