Cora E. Bland

CORA ERNESTINE YATES-BLAND, the second daughter of the late Evie and Margaret Yates, was born on February 14, 1946 in Baltimore, Md. On October 12, 2014 God called her to her eternal home after a lengthy illness. Cora attended grade school in the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Edmondson Senior High School in 1964. For a while she also attended the Community College of Baltimore. Thereafter, she was employed at the Bendix Corporation, General Electric, Value City, Schlumberger Maleo Credit Card Company and finally retiring from Medifast in March of 2013 with 10 years of service. In 1987 she was baptized at the Central Church of Christ where she remained a faithful and dedicated member until her health began to decline. , One of Cora's passions was shopping, especially for "Handbags". From time to time she would watch the Home Shopping Network for a good buy. Whenever she saw something that caught her eye or she really liked she would say, "That Is Sharp II. Also she enjoyed spending quality time attending a good restaurant with her daughter Nicole. She loved to go on dinner dates to Friendly's with her granddaughters Macy and Kirsten. They also enjoyed going to Mama's for the day because they knew they were going to order pizza. Cora enjoyed watching her daughter Raquel sit around the house making various types of clothes. We can't forget Cora traveling to Long Island, New York to visit her granddaughters Ouiana and Candice to go shopping at various shopping malls. Her son-in-law Perry Lewis would treat her to Chinese food during her stay. Cora was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan wearing her cap, sweatshirt and tee-shirt to work sometimes and also on game days cheering when a touchdown was made. Cora especially enjoyed spending time with her family around Thanksgiving and Christmas preparing dinner for the family on those special days. On August 9, 1969 she married Theodore R. Bland and from this union came two daughters. She leaves to treasure her memory: two daughters, Nicole Bland and Raquel Lewis; four brothers, Floyd Dandridge (Stephanie) Allen Sr. and Tyrone K. Yates all of Baltimore, Md. and Byron T. Yates of Charlotte, North Carolina (Sharon); her aunt, Elnedia Blake (Norman) of Baltimore, Maryland; uncle, Leroy E. Yates (Yvonne) of Goochland, Virginia; four granddaughters, Ouiana and Candice Lewis both of Long Island, New York, Macy and Kirsten Bradford both of Owings Mills, Maryland; one son-in-law, Perry Lewis of Long Island, New York; a special friend of 50 years, Lois Bacote (Greg) and also Ivy Jones both of Baltimore, Maryland; her special daughter, Yolanda McGee (Terrance) of the Bronx, New York; finally, her primary caregiver and close friend, Charisse A. Walker of Baltimore, Maryland, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends.
