Collins A. Satterfield

EARLY LIFE COLLINS ANTHONY SATTERFIELD, SR., son of the late Melvin and Nannie Satterfield was born in Roxboro, North Carolina on February 8, 1939; although he claimed Baltimore as his home. He was the only surviving sibling of nine. He received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. COLLINS, THE MAN He was married to Juanita Satterfield who preceded him in death. Collins joined the United States Army and during his tour of duty served honorably in Louisiana, New Jersey, and Germany as a cook. After his discharge, he was employed at Bethlehem Steel Sparrows Point until his retirement. Established in 1974, Collins was a founding member of WE FRIENDS Social Club. “Jackpot”, as he was fondly known was the ultimate host: card games, sporting events or just hanging out. He loved to entertain, the card crew and the ladies. He would prepare, order or have someone else in the kitchen at his expense. His favorite foods were crab cakes & shrimp, crab cakes & fried chicken, crab cakes & fried fish and crab balls. He was avid collector of many things. His spirits collection was renowned. People saw him as a gentle giant. Special long-time friends were: Connie, Tootsie, Teeny, Artie, and Gil. Collins had friends from all walks of life. When he met someone new he would ask “What you do?” He loved the children but was tough on adults. You were welcome to anything in the house, but no carry outs. His grooming was immaculate and he loved to smell good. Collins was well dressed, even down to his manicures. Collins loved good music from Sam Cooke to Keyshia Cole. He was known to be a crooner. END Even towards the end of his life, Collins was generous. One of the last meals he hosted was at the V. A. Loch Raven for his friends. During his V. A. “Country Club” stay, he routinely sponsored lunch for the staff. He transitioned from this life after a lengthy illness on January 8, 2015. He leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Robin, Colleen, Sherri, Lynette and Jonita (James); sons, Collins, Jr. (Renee) and Michael; his legacy includes, 15 grandchildren , Stanley, Raino, Raisen, Naima, Fatima, Derrick, Genene, Ryan, Sherron, Shannon, Collins III, Tatyana Ryan, Michael II, and Devin; 15 great-grandchildren, which includes his sidekick Jorden; and a host of relatives and friends.
