Clyde Kelly

Legacy of Life God expressed His infinite love for Clyde Kelly when He welcomed Clyde into his eternal home, to bask in everlasting joy and peace. Born October 8, 1937, Clyde was the beloved fourth child of Mr. and Mrs. English Kelly, Jr’s., five children. Clyde received his education in the Richmond Public School System, graduating from Armstrong High School in 1956. Fueled by a passion for teaching, he pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science from Virginia Union University in 1969. That same year, he embarked on a fulfilling career with Richmond Public Schools, dedicating himself to shaping young minds until 1995. For nearly three decades, Clyde taught at Mosby Middle School, leaving an indelible impact on his students. In 1961, he also served his country as an Army Chef during six months of active duty in the United States Reserve. Beyond his professional endeavors, Clyde found joy in various hobbies and interests. He had a talent for drawing cars and people, capturing their essence on paper. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball, showcasing his skills on the court. Car racing held a special place in his heart, and he would often spend his time watching thrilling races on television. Clyde shared a deep bond with his brothers, Robert Sr. and Gene, and together they would attend drag races, creating cherished memories. During Thanksgiving and Christmas, Clyde delighted his loved ones with his homemade fruit cakes, a tradition that brought warmth and joy to the holiday season. He also had a passion for stir fry cooking and found solace in the company of his beloved dogs. Preceding Clyde in death were his parents and three of his four siblings: James E. Kelly, Sr., Helen Kelly Lewis, and Robert Kelly, Sr. Clyde’s memory will forever be cherished by his loving family: one brother, Gene A. Kelly; two nieces, Brenda Lewis Broadnax (Reuben)and Robin Kelly; and four nephews, James E. Kelly, Jr. (Belinda), Robert Kelly, Jr., Anthony Kelly, and Bernard Kelly. Additionally, he is survived by three grandnieces, Alexa Broadnax, LaKeisha Braggs, and Sierra Kelly Carter, as well as two grandnephews, James Moseley, Jr., and Phillip Davon Kelly. Each of them holds a special place in their hearts for Clyde, carrying his legacy forward with love and admiration. As we bid farewell to Clyde Kelly, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, dedication, and cherished memories. May his soul find eternal peace in the embrace of God’s love.
