Clifton E. Bates

Clifton E. Bates son o the late Lula Mae and Caldwell Bates was born March 23, 1942 in Union, South Carolina. Affectionately called, “Cee”, he was the 11th child of thirteen and the 7th boy. Baptized at a very early age, an active member of St. Paul Baptist Church and growing up-in what is called today a “large” family-he recognized and appreciated what “family”meant.Early Monday morning on December 2, 2002, he departed his life suddenly.Good fortunate and opportunities were afforded him. With a loving mother to guide him, he received his diploma from Sims High School and immediately enlisted into the Army. After completing several years, he moved to Baltimore where he met, fell in love and married Ms. Anna Linette Scott and out of this union they had two beautiful children: Keith and Donna L. Bates.Cee graduated from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Cee secured a position with the National Security Agency. During his thirty years with NSA, he worked in various positions and retired as a Procurement Specialist in 1999.He, as a husband and father, was very loving and devoted. He had great concern for his entire family; and cared about their welfare.Cee will always be remembered as a charismatic, gentle soul, fun loving, compassionate…and most of all a gentleman. He had a manner for which people could embrace and feel at ease.He leaves to mourn his wife, Anna Linnette; one son, Keith E. and one daughter, Donna L. Bates; one grandchild, Shanina Jones; three sisters, Mary Louise Turner and Barbara Capers of Baltimore and Brenda Diane Porter of Union, South Carolina; five brothers, James and Johnson Bates of Detroit, Michigan, Alphonso Kelly of Union, South Carolina, John Bates of Ellicott City, Maryland and Russell Bates of Sicklerville, New Jersey; and one aunt, Brice Parr of Detroit, Michigan; several sisters and brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews; goddaughter, Erica D. Scott-Jenerret; godson, Gilbert A.
