Clifton W. Chambers, Sr.

CLIFTON W. CHAMBERS SR. was born April 2, 1930 to the late Mr. Annias and Mrs. Ethel Chambers in Baltimore, Maryland. Cliff, as he called by all who knew and loved him, received his education in the Baltimore City School System and later as a young man made the decision to serve his country. Cliff entered the United States Air Force and trained as an air controller, directing planes to safe passage as our country warred with other nations. He left the military with full honor and the opportunity to re-enlist. Cliff returned home unable to gain employment using his military training and knowledge. So he worked various jobs as a truck driver, warehouse worker and more until finding employment with the Baltimore City Department of Public Works were he worked as a water meter reader. In 1953, Cliff married Edna Thomas and from this union seven children were born. Later in life God blessed Clifton again when he met the love of his life Mabel D. Thomas. In the spring of 1978, they married and from this union seven more children came to know him as Dad. Cliff and his bride Mabel saw and experienced life together for thirty-eight years, holding steadfast and unmovable to the vows that they shared one to the other. They were blessed by God to explore his vast universe, traveling the highways and the byways by plane, train, ship or bus. You always saw them together — even in sickness. Mr. Chambers gave his life to Jesus Christ in 1985. He served the Lord of his life faithfully. His mission with his wife Mable was outreach. They turned their first home into a shelter for elders in the community who had no one to care for them — the Chambers Nest was born. He and Mrs. Chambers served food and drink from the back of their van on a weekly basis at the surrounding senior high-rise buildings in the community. Family and friends were everything to him. Cliff lived life with a smile, you never heard him complain. The American Legions Post #19 will never forget Mr. Clifton W. Chambers; for he was a lifetime member and served as the financial advisor and administrator to that location. God bless you, Pop. He leaves to celebrate life in Christ: his wife, Mrs. Mabel Chambers; four sons, Carlton, Clifton Jr., Gary, William; six daughters, Claudette, Stephanie, Mia, Karen, Doris, Patricia and Tammy; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Ethel Eubanks; sister-in-law, Mrs. Marion Chambers; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. Clifton was preceded in death by: two daughters, Belinda and Sheila; son, Richard; three brothers, Norman, Donald, Joseph; and his sister Gladys.
