Cleveland Jackson

Brother Cleveland Jackson, beloved son of the late Robert Jackson, Sr., and Rosa B. Jackson-Dantzler was born October 3, 1921 in Calhoun County, South Carolina. Following a lengthy illness on Monday, September 13, 2010, God called him home to his eternal rest. Cleveland was formally educated in the Calhoun County public schools in South Carolina. At an early age, he joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, accepting God as his personal Savior. Later he joined the Armed Forces serving in the C.C. Camp where he traveled throughout the United States and abroad. After an honorable discharge, Cleveland moved to Baltimore, where he was employed by Sparrows Point Steel Mill and Little Potts Department Store. Soon after his arrival in Baltimore, Cleveland met and married the late Mary Morris Jackson and unto this union five children were born, one (Teresa Jackson) preceded him in death. God later led Cleveland to join the New Pilgrim Baptist Church under Reverend Roosevelt Davenport where he served as a member of the male chorus until his health would not allow. Cleveland enjoyed singing about the Lord and never refused an opportunity to sing and speak at Annual Family gatherings as the matriarch to the families' youth concerning education and salvation. He also enjoyed gardening and cooking with a Southern Flair. He truly believed in being a gentleman in both his inner and outer appearance. Cleveland's passing brings deep sorrow to his family and friends. He was admired and held in high esteem by those who know him. Left to Cherish his memories are: Four sons, Tommy (Nina) Jackson, Manassas, Virginia; Tyrone (Gail) Jackson, Baltimore, Maryland; Donald Jackson, Baltimore, Maryland and Melvin (Balinda) Jackson, North Carolina; 1 Brother, Robert (Adell) Jackson, Vance, S.C.; 2 Sisters, Minister Mammie Walker and Mrs. Rosa M. Coleman, St. Matthews, S.C.; 1 Aunt, Mrs. Wilhelmena A. Larrymore, St. Matthews, S.C.; 2 Uncles, Rev. Joseph Anderson, St. Matthews, S.C. And Marion (Sheila) Anderson, Orangeburg, S.C.; 9 grandchildren; 1great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
