Cleo Valerie Jones

CLEO VALERIE JONES, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, age seventy-six, was called home to be with the Lord on April 4, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Gail G. Gillespie and Bertha E. Howell Gillespie of Spring City, Tennessee. Cleo known to her family as “Lucy”, graduated from Dayton City High School. Cleo met the love of her life at a homecoming dance when she was twelve and he was fifteen. On July 6, 1955 she entered in holy matrimony to Walter Jones, Jr. in Emory Gap, Tennessee. They later relocated to Baltimore, Maryland in 1956. Out of this union eight children were born: Felice, Cynthia, Carlton, Terence, Falena, Cernoria, Kevin and Saritha. She was a devoted member of Pleasant Zion Baptist Church in Dundalk, MD. She was so sweet, so loving and so kind. Her spirit was flawless, never complained about anything. She lived by God’s words everyday, knowing God is love and showed God’s love to everyone. She adored all of her grandchildren and never forgot their birthdays or special occasions. She loved to sing, sew, cook, read her Bible and listen to gospel music. Cleo was preceded in death by: her father, Gail G. Gillespie; and mother, Bertha E. Howell Gillespie; her sons, Terence Jones and Kevin Jones; her daughters, Felice Jones and Cernoria Buckner; one son-in-law, Michael Robinson; six sisters, Nola Locke, Florence Wilkerson, Helen Bess Smith, Mary Ruth Moore, Emma Lee Peoples and Edna Irene Gillespie Hickey; two brothers, George L. Gillespie and Olen Gillespie; and a special sister-in-law, Geraldine Blount. Sweet Lucy leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Walter Jones, Jr.; one son, Carlton Jones; three daughters, Cynthia Johnson (son-in-law Charles), Falena Robinson and Saritha Winstead (son-in-law James); fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Eunice Rankins of Columbus, OH and Shirley Oggs (husband James) of Spring City, TN; brothers, Booker T. Gillespie (wife Carol) of Nashville, TN, Alvas C. Gillespie (wife Pearlie) and Curtis L. Gillespie of Dallas, TX; one devoted cousin, Carlos Donaldson of Chicago, IL; brothers-in-law, Philip Jones of Baltimore, MD, Larry Jones (wife Brenda) of Athens, TN and William Jones of Detroit, MI; sisters-in-law, Bessie Carney of Rockwood, TN and Rita Lawson (husband Winton) of Dayton, TN; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
