Clara V. Hamond

CLARA VIRGINIA HAMOND returned to her heavenly home on Thursday, October 20, 2016. She was born on March 1, 1937 in King and Queen County, Virginia. She devoted her life to her family. Her firm belief in God supported her duing the struggle with Cancer and ultimately gave her peace. Clara is predeceased by her parents, Mary Lou (Lockley) and John Taylor, Laura (sister), Hermon (husband), Sammie (son), Terron (grandson), Brittany (great-granddaughter). She was educated in Little Plymouth, Virginia and New Jersey School Systems. At an early age, Clara was baptized at Second Mount Olive Baptist Church in Little Plymouth, Virginia. Clara married the love of her life, the (late) Hermon Lee Hamond on November 10, 1951, in the State of Virginia. From this union seven children were born: Sammie, Robert, Jannie Sue, John, Terry, Helen and Hazel. They relocated to Baltimore, Maryland in 1958, where her husband obtained a job at Bethlehem Steel. She resided in the Wilson Park Community for 56 years. Clara was a homemaker until all her children attended school. She then worked for Johnson and Johnson Manufacturing and then Misty Harbor as a presser until retirement, Clara was a loving mother and grandmother who was kind, free hearted and outspoken. She loved all her family and would give her last to anyone. Clara helped raise her grandchildren with patience, discipline and humility. She was always willing to give advice; loved her grandchildren and had a special relationship with each of them. She adored her great grandchildren and great- great grandchild. Clara maintained a sharp memory and was the matriarch of our family. She was also known as the family historian. Clara enjoyed long conversations with family and friends. She was famous for her pancakes and spaghetti. She was known to make you laugh but was serious when taking care of business. Clara really enjoyed shopping and visiting out of town relatives. She leaves to cherish her memory: six children, one daughter-in-law and two sons-in-law, Robert (Denise),Jannie Sue, John, Terry (Ronald), Helen and Hazel (Clyde); thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one great -great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Flossie Hammond (Phil. PA) and Emma Florence (Center Cross, VA); special cousins, Ben, Earlene, Bea, Russell, Margaret, and Cathy; devoted nephew, Frankie and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
