Clara Mae Clark

REMEMBERING CLARA SHOUT FOR JOY TO THE LORD; ALL THE EARTH. WORSHIP THE LORD WITH GLADNESS, COME BEFORE HIM WITH JOYFUL SONGS. PSALM 100:1-2 CLARA MAE CLARK, 89, a cherished wife, daughter, mother grandmother and great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend departed this life on Saturday, September 27, 2025. Clara was born in Mecklenburg County on March 26, 1936, to the late Thorton Gregory, Jr. and Lillie Mae Tucker, she was the beloved wife of the late Eddie Clark, Jr. Clara graduated from Westend High School in Charlotte County, VA in 1956. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ, and she joined Rocky Mount Baptist in Skipwith, VA. In June 1957, she married the love of her life. She and Eddie were married for over 40 years and to this union four daughters were born. Clara was a homemaker until she was employed by AT&T as Inspector and she retired in 2007 after 25 years of service. Clara liked working for AT&T and she maintained many close relationships with her former friends and coworkers. Clara attended the AT&T reunions every year where she loved dancing and catching up with her old teammates. After moving to Richmond, VA in 1957, she became a lifelong and dedicated member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she sang in choir and attended bible study for the seniors. Toward her latter years, she attended United Faith of Fellowship Church with her oldest daughter She was active member of the Westend High School alumni association for over 30 years. She was excited when she received her golden crown & sash for her 50-year high school graduation anniversary. Clara was a fashionista, and she loved wearing her jewelry and her scarves. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and talking with her only living sister, Shirley. We will fondly remember Clara “dropping like it is hot” when she danced. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her daughter, Joyce Clark, her siblings, LT Gregory, Lida Gregory, William Gregory, Earl Gregory, George Gregory, Elliot Gregory, Herman Gregory and John Gregory. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Vivian Gordon of Richmond, VA, Carol Clark of Petersburg, VA & Benita Parks of Stafford, VA; seven grandchildren, James Gordon (NaKeisha), Alphonso Miller (Kristina), Shaun Miller, Jamal Gordon, Edia Clark (Deandra), Kelcey Parks and Kendall Parks; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Keene; one sister- in-law, Irene Salley (Thurman); her best friend, Eleanor Carey; and devoted companion and caregiver, Catherine Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Clara was the beloved matriarch of our family, and she now has taken her wings and her crown.
