Christopher S. Cummings

A born leader, Chris was a dedicated son, brother and friend. On June 10, 2011 the world lost an amazing man, destined for greatness. Born on January 29, 1991 in Biloxi, Mississippi to James and Rosa Cummings, Chris experienced a life full of love and fulfillment. Attending Leesylvania Elementary School and Rippon Middle School, Chris displayed his athletic talents starting from an early age excelling at both football and basketball. Although he graduated from Forest Park, he broke the Freshman record for the most sacks and tackles in a single game during his time at Potomac Senior High School. He was known as “Old Man Chris”. Chris was then accepted at Old Dominion University, majoring in Criminal Justice and maintaining a 3.5 grade point average. His hope was to become a lawyer. While at ODU, Chris was accepted into Theta Chi fraternity, in which he was set to become Rush Chair in his Junior year. Drawn to the fraternity’s high standards of morals and ethics, Chris strived to make a difference in his community as a volunteer at ForKids, where he counseled local youth, alongside his fellow fraternity brothers. Christopher is survived by his parents, James and Rosa Cummings, of Woodbridge, VA; his grandmother, Ruth Cummings; one brother Daniel Briggs and sisters, Lani Randall, Kandace Cummings and Crystal Balzer. He is further survived by his nieces, cousins and many other relatives. Believing in the message of generosity, kindness and compassion, many were touched and inspired by Chris’s individuality. He considered his friends to be his family and therefore is also survived by his fraternity brothers, the Javed family and Anna Hernandez, girlfriend of five years. As a positive gesture of friends and family, this scholarship fund will be a benefit to graduating high school seniors in Chris' home school district of Prince William County.
