Charles Ray Toon

Bro. Charles Ray Toon, Sr. born on July 26, 1939 in Winterville, N. C. to the late Mabell Toon. He was raised by his grandmother, Lottie Toon. He was known as “Chalk.” Bro Charles was known for his deep, heavy voice. Charles attended the Columbus County Public School System and graduated from Central High in Columbus County Winterville, N.C. Bro Charles Toon came to Baltimore, MD at the age of 19 yrs. Old. He the met Versia Mae Jackson and they married on February 27, 1960. Out of this union were born three lovely children. Charles was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He enjoyed his sports, watching the Ravens' Games and baseball. But, most of all he loved and worshiped the Lord. He has been a strong servant of God for many years. He was a longtime member of Mt. Calvary Church and Ministries where he served, at various times, on the male Chorus, the Usher Board, Bus Driver, and Sunday School Teacher. He will be greatly missed by all. Bro. Toon was preceded in death by the following family members: Lottie Toon(grandmother), Theatus Houston (sister), Lawrence Toon(brother), Willie Jackson, Sr.(father-in-law). He leaves to cherish his memory : his wife, Mrs. Versia M. Toon of Baltimore, MD; one daughter, Ms. Linda Michelle Toon, of Baltimore, MD; 2 sons, Mr. Charles R. Toon, II, (Cassandra), Mr. Kevin O'Brian Toon, Sr. (Anjanette); 6 grandchildren: Mr. Tony McElveen, Jr., Mr. Henry L. Stephens, 3rd, Mr. Charles R. Toon III, Miss Kenisha Toon, Master Kevin Toon, Jr., Master Tiquan Toon; 1 great-grandson, the sunshine of his life, Ryland Stephens; 2 sisters Mrs. Presheila Campbell (Albert), and Mrs. Minnie Woods, both of Winterville, N.C; 5 brothers, Mr. Solomon Toon (Alma) of Winterville, N.C, Mr. Leroy Woods (Valerie) of Brooklyn, N. Y. Mr. Tommy Woods (Sandra) of Deridder, LA, Mr. Carnell Woods (Lisa) of Jacksonville, Fl, Mr. Darnell Ford (Tina) of Jacksonville, Fl; Mother-in-law, Evangelist Beatrice Jackson of Baltimore, MD; sister-in-law Ms. Karen D. Jackson, of Baltimore, MD 3 brother-in-laws; Mr. Otha Jackson, Sr., Mr. Appell Jackson, Sr Mr. Willie Jackson, Jr all of Baltimore, Extended in -laws: Ms. Tamica Wiggins, Ms. Lucy Jones, and Kybillah Brown, Sr. all of Baltimore, MD; 17 nieces, 12 nephews, and a host of other family members and friends.
