Charles Milton Edwards

Charles Milton Edwards (affectionately known as “Charlie” or “Rev” was born on July 13, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the fourth born of the late Esther Williams Jennings and Charles Edwards. After a lengthy illness, God called him to his heavenly home on Monday, April 14, 2008, as he peacefully rested in the comfort of his earthly home.He attended Faith Baptist Church as a child with his family and in later years attended with his brother Alvin and his sister Mattie. Later, he began to attend Fountain Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Herman A.Ford. Charles loved the Lord, his church family and his pastor. He was excited to hear that we had a new pastor and thrilled when he received mail from Rev. Chambers. It made his day, when he was told which members of Faith and Fountain asked about him. He would always say “who,” so that he could hear it again.Charles was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. His employment history included working in a bleach factory, bartending and maintenance at Parkside Gardens Apartments. His favorite job was arabbing along the streets of Baltimore. He love caring for the horses that were the backbone of the arabbing business.He loved family gatherings and socializing with friends and neighbors, and participating in the Keswick Adult Day Care Program and the Alliance Mental Health Program. He was also a lady’s man. He added on a “girlfriend” everywhere he went: at church, the hospital, the Doctor’s office, and he even added new ones he met at home during his illness. Charles was a strong and gentle, giving, loving, caring and helpful man. He was a true humanitarian; nothing was too small or too big to handle for a friend, and he was always willing to go the extra mile to help anyone.He leaves to cherish precious memories: his sisters, Mattie J.Lewis, Beulah Lang and Thelma Erwin; niece, Benita Edwards Wilson; sisters-in-law, Louise Edwards and Alma Edwards; nephews, Kenneth L.Lewis (Linda) of Detroit, MI, Raymond T.Erwin and Jerome Jennings; adopted nephew, Stanley Scott (Jennifer); nieces, Jacqueline Land Green (Lance), Aretha J.Ector (Jeffrey) and adopted niece and caregiver, Nellie Johnson; great nephews and nieces, Bradford Lewis, Myles Lewis, Dallas Ector, Zuri Lewis, Jada Ector and Alexis Green; adopted nieces and nephew, LaTasha McCalpo, Diana Scott and Stanley Scott, and their mother, Cynthia Lomax, faithful friends, Melvin Bracy and Wendell Dixon; devoted caregiver, Carline Smalls (Lena), and a host of cousins, extended family members and friends.
