Charles Isaac Hobbs III

Charles Isaac Hobbs, III was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 25, 1950 to the late Charles I Hobbs, Jr and the late Gwendolyn Gaskins Hobbs. He was the third of three children. Charles, affectionately known as “Chucky” departed this life on Friday, August 23, 2019. At the age of six years, Charles attended Catechism classes at St Pius Roman Catholic Church. He was confirmed and received First Holy Communion at the age of 7 years. Later in life Charles professed his faith in the LORD, and was baptized. Charles received his formal education within the Baltimore City Public School System and he attended Catonsville Community College. During the Vietnam War period, Charles joined the United States Army. He served overseas in Thailand. Charles was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal during active duty. Charles received an Honorable Discharge and returned to the USA, to reside in his hometown. Charles was employed with Keswick Hospital, Building Services Department in the 1970’s. He held various jobs throughout his lifetime. His last employment was with the ARC Organization. As a part of staff, he worked with young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In 1978, Charles married the former Gloria Flood, and this union was blessed with three sons, Charles M., Michael A., and Marcus S. Hobbs. The family resided in the Hillendale neighborhood of Baltimore. He loved reading books, especially the novels his sister Gloria had given him. Charles also liked watching all sports, especially the “Ravens” games. More recently, he enjoyed listening to tapes by Joyce Myers. Charles was a gentle and loving person with a great “sense of humor”. He laughed a lot, smiled a lot, and readily made friends. At his last residence, he enjoyed socializing with the other residents in the building. Charles will sincerely be missed by everyone who knew him. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Montray Johnson. Charles leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, Charles M., Michael A., Marcus S.; four grandsons, Elijah, Micah, Zhyaire, Zaye; one sister, Gloria Dorsey; nephew, James Johnson; nieces, Kimberly Thomas and Marni Johnson; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other beloved family and friends.
