Charles James Blount

CHARLES JAMES BLOUNT, son of Lossie Bell Blount and the late Spruce Gorham was born on February 25, 1948 in Little Washington, North Carolina. On Friday February 12, 2016 after being fitted with his wings he answered God's call and transitioned to his final resting place. Although he completed his primary education in North Carolina, the family moved to Baltimore where he was educated in the Baltimore City Public School system Charles was affectionately known as "Turtle" because he moved so slow but was always on time. He was first employed at Allied Chemical and then Maryland Chicken Company for over 30 years before retiring. He was also a member of Teamsters Union Local 355. In 1972, Charles met the love of his life Danita and they were married in 1977. From this union they had 3 daughters Kia, Kisha and Kishica. Charles loved his wife and she was right by his side until he was called home. He loved his girls more than life itself, and also his son,his namesake; Charles Jr. There was nothing he would not do for his kids or grandkids. Charles was saved and knew the Lord Jesus Christ. Anyone who knew "Turtle" knew that he had a love for his cars, especially his Cougar with the gangster "white walls" which he always kept clean. He loved to dance, and play Pinochle at the weekend get together at his mother's house with the whole family. They would play into the wee hours of the morning until all of the kids were passed out sleep in corners, chairs or on the steps. The Christmas holidays complete with egg nog, were his favorite. He was an avid sports fan and loved his Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. Charles was indeed a family man. He loved taking his grandkids to school and others to work for a "small fee". He may have been a man of few words but he had a huge heart, a wonderful spirit and would do anything for you. However, you knew not to ask for certain things because his favorite words were, "I aint got no money." Family and friends could attest to the fact that no matter where Charles was, when he was ready to go, he simply stood and everybody knew it was time to go. No words were necessary. That sort of became his trademark and most certainly will be missed. Turtle was loved. He left a lifetime of lasting impressions and memories with all who knew him and will be forever treasured. He leaves to continue his legacy and cherish fond memories: his parents Lossie Bell and William Checks Sr.; his wife Danita Blount; three daughters, Kia, Kisha (Alfredo) and Kishica (Kevin); one son, Charles Jr.; one Godson Shawn; five sisters, Renee Douglas (Gordon), Doris Gorham, Maria, Kim, and Karen; Nine brothers, Joseph Blount Sr. (Elaine), Moses Blount (Ellen), Thomas Blount (Shicola), LeMorn Blount, Joseph Gorham, Michael, Daniel, Eddie and Daniel; six grandchildren, Dartanyon III, Kennedy, Asia (Kelly), Camden, Kashton,, Kynnlei; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Preceding him death and now welcoming him home is his baby brother William Cheeks Jr. "Junie", his sister Terry Jean Cheeks and his favorite Aunt Dot.
