Chancey R. Carter

CHANCEY RUDOLPH CARTER, SR. was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother and friend. He passed away peacefully on March 15, 2024, at the age of 77. Chancey spent many years battling multiple illnesses. His illnesses showed strength and courage while dealing with life challenges. Despite the severity of those illnesses, Chancey remained strong and fought until the very end. Chancey Carter Sr. was affectionately known as “Big Chance” to his family and friends. He was born in North Carolina on October 12, 1946, one of 17 children born to the late Willard Carter Sr. and Maggie Lou Carter. He met the love of his life, Lolean Hinnant in North Carolina and they were married on June 13, 1965. Chancey received his education in Lucama, North Carolina where he worked multiple jobs then relocated his family to Baltimore, Maryland where he worked with Greys & Son Construction until his retirement. He also attended Mary Grove Baptist Church in North Carolina . Chancey was a family man and a provider for not only the family he made but a lot of others. He loved to spend time and travel back home. with his family for annual trips. One of his past times was watching westerns and going to see the horse's race. Chancey was extremely proud to be a grandfather and played an important role in helping to raise them and others. Big Chance opened his home to anyone who needed a place to stay. Chancey was preceded in death by his father and mother Willard and Maggie Carter, his brothers Joseph Carter, Thomas Carter, John Carter, Alexander Carter, James Carter and Willard Carter, sister Brenda Carter,son-in-law Rodney Cunningham, and brother-in-laws Willie Hinnant and Randolph Hinnant. Chancey leaves behind: his wife, Lolean Carter; his children, Candy Rogers, Deborah Carter, Chancey Carter Jr., Naomi Carter and Danielle Carter; sons-in-law, Tyler Rogers, Michael Harris, Antonio Nance, Samuel Barksdale; brother, Nathaniel Carter; sisters, Elmer Bunch, Nancey Carter, Alice Carter, Maggie Carter, Malinda Jobes and Joanne Carter; sisters-in-law, Odessa Dean, (Willie), Mattie Brown (Gratice) Bernice Farmer (Billy); two brothers-in-law, Roy Lee Hinnant (Carolyn) and Annie Hinnant (Marie); sister-in-law, Bettye Wilson; uncle, Jasper Carter (Brenda); three aunts, Ozzie Alston, Virginia Carter and Judy Carter. godson, Warren Powers Sr.; his best friend, Willie Spenser. He also leaves behind 24 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
