Chalmers Jackson, Sr.

On this day we celebrate the life of Deacon Chalmers Jackson,Sr. He was born in Dillon,South Carolina on January 13,1930. He was preceded in death by his parents,Mr. & Mrs. Salas Jackson,brother,Jay Jackson,brother,Jule Thompson(Bessie),sister,Arletha Jackson,daughter,Marva Johnson and a grand daughter,Jacques Jones. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife,Annie M. Jackson. They were united in marriage on November 24,1950,from this union he leaves to cherish his memory,six daughters,,Patricia Bush(Harrison),from Boston,Mass.,Priscilla Williams(Steve) from Richmond,VA.,Alicia Jones (Rev. Gerald),from Newburgh,NY.,Amanda Majurie(Charles),from Richmond,VA., Sharon Jones(Rufus),Richmond,VA.,and Berlinda Grey(Stafford),Newburgh.NY.,two sons,Chalmers,Jr.,Richmond,Va.,Charles(Shantia) Newburgh.NY,and a sister-in-law,Bertha Jackson;30 grandchildren;31 great grandchildren;5 great great grandchildren;3 sisters,Mary Cooper(James), Ella Bowman (Willie),Pearletha Ward (Lonnie);one brother,Hazekiah Moses (Loretta) and a host of relatives and friends. He attended Brownsville Elementary School in South Carolina,a school that had only two rooms. He quit school to work in the fields to support his family. In 1955,he traveled to Newburgh,New York where he was employed at the United States Military Academy as a custidial leader and after 30 years there,he retired. He was also employed as a security guard at Fleet Bank. While in Newburgh, he served faithfully at The House of Joy First Born Church of the Living God under the leadership of the late Bishop Luke Grant,Sr.;where he served as the chairman of the Deacon Board and was also a member of the Joylettes Senior Choir,where he led the march with a big smile and he had a joy for singing. Deacon Jackson heard so many great things about the church his daughters attended in Richmond,VA., that he wanted to experience it for himself. He visited Redeemed Assembly of Jesus Christ,in 1995 and never looked back. At Redeemed Assembly under the leadership of Dr. James F. Harris,he served as a Deacon and a member of the finance team until his health failed. His favorite scripture was Romans 12:18"If it be possible,as much as lieth in you,live peaceably with all men" and Romans 4:6a "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." Deacon Jackson prayed constantly for his family and always told them to do the right thing and to treat people like you want to be treated. He loved sports,but one of his least favorite teams was,"The Braves". He could sit all day and watch baseball. His overall mission in life was to lay foundation of Holiness for his family,and especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his concern for the people of God and for the many words of encourageent he left with all those he came in contact with. He'll also will be remembered for the love he had for the Word of God. Deacon Jackson leaves a legacy that will be extended for many years.
