Cecelia Theresa Nichols

Cecelia Theresa Nichols, the daughter of the late George Nichols and Mary Brinkley Nichols, was born on June 5, 1907 in Henderson, North Carolina. She departed her life and went to her peace on Saturday, August 24, 2002 after a long illness, surrounded and loved by her family. At the age of five years old, Cecelia’s parents left Henderson, North Carolina and moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she was raised in downtown Baltimore, Maryland. She attended the Baltimore City Public Schools. After completing her education there, Cecelia became a cook for the Diamond Restaurant where she worked for over thirty years. Cecelia retired in 1976 and moved to Brooklyn Park, Maryland where she resided with her son Samuel until her illness in 1999. She then moved to Randallstown, Maryland where she resided with her daughter and granddaughter until her departure on August 24, 2002. Cecelia enjoyed traveling, especially with her daughter and would sit for hours talking and helping her daughter Carolyn design and sew garments. She loved attending fashion shows and amusement parks and especially Rodeos even to the ripe old age of ninety-five. Cecelia was loved by all that knew her. Everyone called her Ma-Ma. We would like to thank Marvin Hoffman for all the time and care he donated to Cecelia taking her for all of her treatments and transportation. Thank you, Marvin. There is another very special person in Ma-Ma’s life who cared for her during her illness until her departure, who stayed and cared for Cecelia while the family continued to hold known their jobs and that person is Renee Gladney. Renee was like a daughter her and loved Cecelia dearly and Cecelia dearly and Cecelia loved her. Thank you Renee, we love you. Also big thanks goes out to Mr. Gary Cooper, who also participated in the recent care of Cecelia, we love you Gary. Thank you, Myron Gunn (Caesar) for feeding us when we were too tired to cook. Jonathan Jones, (Chickie) Cecelia’s great-grandson, also participated in the nursing care of his great-grandmother, not hardly leaving her side to prepare for college at Wiedner University in Chester, Pennsylvania two days before Cecelia’s departure. We would like to thank all of the family and friends for their kindness and concern for Ma-Ma during her illness. Thank you, Jennifer Nell and Ken Buckner, for the nursing care you provided Cecelia through the Visiting Nurses Association. Thank you, Dr. George Lowe and Dr. Neil Rosenshein, for all of your medical care. Cecelia leaves to mourn: daughter, Carolyn; son, Samuel; granddaughter Carolyn; grandson, Myron and Harold (grandson Mark precede her in death); ten great-grandchildren; one step-grandson, Jerome (Jerry); a host of other relatives and friends.
