Cecelia B. Mitchell

CECELIA BEATRICE MITCHEL, affectionately known as Cookie, was born on April 16, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Joseph Herbert Mitchell and Aline Biddy Mitchell. She joined into eternal fellowship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 17, 2010. She joined her dear nephew, Sean D. Mitchell, who preceded her in death. Cookie was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School. She attended Morgan State University and later gained employment at Windsor Nursing Home and London Fog. At the time of her passing, she had recently retired from the Social Security Administration after providing forty-two years of dedicated service. Cookie received several promotions during her tenure at the Social Security Administration she had retired as a Benefit Earnings Technician (Metro West Building). In fact, it was March 26, 2010 that family and friends attended a joyous retirement celebration in her honor hosted by her devoted granddaughter, Domonique. Cookie was a quiet and private person, who definitely honored her mother, children, family and friends. She was the kind of daughter, mother, sister, aunt, friend, co-worker and neighbor one could only pray to be blessed to have in their life. Without complaint or selfishness, Cookie often put the needs of others before herself. One could witness her selfless love in the way she took care of her mother, Biddy; lovingly raised her children Leroy (Bunky) and Twanna; dedicated her time and resources to her granddaughter and great-grandsons, and fondly supported her younger siblings, Larry, Joyce (Pinky) and Rodney. She loved sending time with family and friends. She was a wonderful cook. As you ate her delicious meals, you could taste her love in each bite. Cookie was a spiritual woman of God. For her, Christianity was not about the title, but more about the way you deliberately lived your life to serve others. She believed in the power of prayer. She intentionally lived her life by encouraging others to keep the faith and stay strong during their life challenges. She was a calm, peaceful and forgiving person whose smile radiated not only in her eyes but also in her comforting hands and serene presence. You could always depend on Cookie! Cookie was a kind, reserved and organized women whom one could only describe as being a “sharp diva”. Her fashionable attire was always complemented by her stylish and meticulous hairstyles. For Cookie, a nice cold Pepsi, a profitable day at the casino and listening to some good old fashion “oldies but goodies” were some of the simple things in life she truly enjoyed. However, nothing made her happier than the joy she had in caring for and being available for her family and friends. Particularly in her passing, Cookie leaves us all with the victorious testimony of the power of forgiveness, the importance of family, the legacy to always seek peace and the calm assurance that no matter what, God will make everything alright. She leaves to mourn, yet to celebrate her life: her devoted mother, Aline Mitchel (Biddy); dedicated son, Leroy McQuaige (Bunky); loving daughter, Twanna Mitchel; the apple of her eye, her granddaughter, Domonique Ackwood Griffin (husband, Charles); adoring grandsons, Jairus and Jamar; loyal sibling, Larry Mitchel, Joyce Mitchell (Pinkey), Rodney Mitchell, Joey Chase, Beverly Mason and Rachelle Savage; nephew/nieces, Larry Mitchell, Jr., Monique L. Reynolds (Cookie), Kristy Mitchell- Cartnail, D’Lana Simmons (DeeDee), Brittany Mitchell; and a host of other family and friends.
