Cauline Charles-Boykin

Cauline Charles-Boykin was born on July 6, 1911 in Bishopville, South Carolina. She went home to be with the Lord on November 13, 2002. Cauline, one of nine children born to the late Abraham and Camilla Charles, attended school in Bishopville.At the age of twenty-four, she met and later married the late Marvin Boykin. From that union two sons were born Odis and Leroy Boykin. Some years later, she adopted and raised from birth her granddaughter, Patricia Boykin. During the late 1930’s, Cauline left Bishopville and moved to Baltimore where she gave her life to Christ and was baptized a few years later. A hardworking woman, Cauline held several jobs over the years and retired from Regal Laundry in 1975.Cauline was affectionately called “Mama.” She, also, raised three of her great grandchildren: Shannon Gaines, Tonganetta Boykin and LaDarris Boykin and helped to rear four great great grandchildren, Taron (T.J.), Sha’quita, Sha’neka and Ty’rek.“Mama” loved to cook and tend to her well-kept garden. Several times a year, she would gather all of her family and close friends together for a feast fit for a king. It was not unusual to walk in her house and hear her singing or humming her old favorite gospel songs, “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Precious Lord Take My Hand,” as she prepared dinner. “Mama” loved to talk and always had an old homeopathic remedy for any physical or mental ailment. She kept in touch with her close friends and spoke with her family daily.As the years rolled by, “Mama” battled numerous illnesses and eventually became confined to her home. Although she was unable to attend church, she loved the Lord with all her heart and soul and she never stopped reading the bible and quoting her favorite scripture, the 23rd Psalm.“ Mama” was loved by all and will be truly missed. She leaves to cherish her memory; two sons, Odis and Leroy Boykin; one daughter, Patricia Boykin: two sisters, Adline Charles and Blanche Benjamin; one brother, Willie Charles; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Boykin; twenty grandchildren; fifty-seven great grandchildren; twenty-four great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We all loved “Mama” but the Lord loved her more.
