Cathrine Scott

CATHERINE SCOTT, departed this life into eternity at 6:40pm on Friday, July 8, 2011 at Bon Secours Hospital after a long life of giving patience and love. Catherine was affectionately referred to as “Granny” by her close friends and family. Granny was the daughter of the late Rev. Otis Stewart and Alice Gray-Stewart. She received her education through the Baltimore City Public School System after 30 years of faithful service. She also retired from a part-time job at Reeds now known as Rice Aid as a manager. Her labor didn’t stop there; she took great pleasure in hard work for the State of Maryland as an assisted living provider caring for several patients in her home over the year. Granny married John Miller Sr. and out of that union came her son John Paul Miller Jr. also known as “Jr.”, he was the joy of her life. “Jr.”, age 21, preceded her in passing. She later married the late Carlton Scott and they began raising their grandchildren on Sheridan Avenue in the Govans community of north-east Baltimore City. Granny was blessed with many gifts and talents. The greatest one is “Love”. She was and activist and advocate for youth. She organized various community outreach such as summer camps and youth summer job programs throughout the 1970’s and 80’s. She also hosted block parties, gave trips and hosted many other activities as well as volunteered at the local Govans Elementary School. Granny was a pillar in the neighborhood and she believed in feeding, clothing, housing and loving on everyone in need. She loved crab cakes, spades, dancing and socializing. Her jokes, bright smile and great advise was a joy to all who knew her. She loved to share a meal, a good conversation and wisdom. All will forever be grateful for her faithfulness, support, patience and kindness. In all she did she wanted the life she lived to speak for her. Granny leaves her legacy of “Love” to be carried on by her grandchildren; Phyllis Holt and husband Robert Holt, James Smith and wife Anita Smith, Catherine Smith, Beatrice Robinson and husband Charles Robinson Sr., Pastor Marvin McNair and wife Bernadette McNair, nine great-grandchildren; Donald Jordan, Latonya Jones, Demetria Rideout and husband Corey Rideout, Oliver Williams III, Cedric Holt, Charles Robinson Jr. and wife Danielle Robinson, India Robertson and husband Phillip Robertson, Jasmine McNair, and Joshua McNair, as well as, twenty-one great-grandchildren, two nieces Cynthia Manning and Burnadette Goode, one nephew Gerald Manning, close cousin Thelma Smith, her best friend Luria “Mama Dean” Johnson, one brother Ernest Stewart and one sister Dorothy Manning both of whom preceded her in passing and a host of other beloved friends and family.
