Catheryn C. Stepney

We color this Lady “LOVE” shortly after 6:00 a.m. on November 29, 2010, the Lord called His Angel home. CATHERYN COLLIER STEPNEY, was born in Madison County, Alabama to the late Leonard E. Collier and Amanda L. Flemings-Collier. She was the first child born into this union. Catheryn was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age in Berkley, Alabama. She joined Trinity A.M.E. Church after moving to Baltimore, Maryland In October 1987, she was baptized into the Church of Christ by the hand of Brother Anthony in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She later moved her membership to the Central Church of Christ in Baltimore, Maryland where she worked in the nursery for two years. Sister Stepney remained an active member until the Lord called her to eternal rest. Catheryn was educated in the public schools of Berkley, Alabama and later attended the Normal School of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts in Normal, Alabama. In 1948, she moved to Baltimore and continued her education at Morgan State College (now Morgan State University). Catheryn furthered her education by entering the nursing program at the Provident Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore. She enjoyed a successful nursing career for thirty-four years as a private duty nurse and as a nurse at Children’s Hospital. She retired from her position at Children’s Hospital in 1963. Catheryn Collier Stepney was a very loving and exceptional servant of God. She was also ready render service and to offer any assistance she was called upon to do. Her ready and cheerful smile exuded a warmth and friendship that attracted everyone. Strangers gravitated to her as someone they could trust and talk to; friends confided in her and sought her advice She spread love wherever she went. Catheryn loved to travel. It was one of her favorite pastimes. She traveled extensively in Europe and the United States. Momma Cat leaves to mourn: Debbie Von Hendricks, Affectionately considered a daughter, her daughter Keisha and grandchildren; Sylvia Holley, affectionately considered a daughter and her children, Johnathan and Joya; Diana Maclntosh, also affectionately considered a daughter and her daughter Kayla; grandson, Dylan and devoted friend, Eddie Adams; loving sister-in-law, Illuminada S. Collier; four nieces, a nephew; a devoted great-nephew, Eugene Collier; two first cousins, Grace Ann Graham and Lorene Wade; a host of godchildren whom she loved and nurtured: Joe Blackston and his wife Dorothy, Sarah Epperson and her daughter Karen Marshall, Phyllis Harper, Thel Moore and his wife Wanda, Geraldine Parker, Debbie Rice, Juanita Russell, Geoffrey and Lisa Veale and Carolyn Williams; three devoted friends, Jesse L. Ford, Sylvia Shearin and Mattie Watson; and a host of other relatives and friends. Catheryn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of twenty-five years, Clarence M. Stepney.
