Carolyn Turner Rivers

A Life Well Loved Our beloved Carolyn Elizabeth Turner Rivers entered this world on June 12, 1952. She was born in Richmond, Virginia to Geraldine Wright and James P. DePriest and was adopted by Edward and Edith Turner. Carolyn who was known by some as “Turner” or “Mumma” attended and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. After graduating, she furthered her education by attending the Richmond Technical College and learned to be a Data Entry Operator. Later, she worked at Merridian as a supervisor in their Data Entry Department. She also became employed at Creative Office Environment. Carolyn had a soft exterior way about her and she also had a tough interior. She was a fighter and was able to beat one of her biggest battles of her life, breast cancer. She was well-known for her love of the singing group “The O’Jays”, and had that very name placed on her license plate for her Toyota. Later, she had the privilege of meeting her favorite, along with Eddie Lavert’s son, the late Gerald Lavert. She was then known to them as “Carolyn with the Toyota”. She was also known for her love of sports. Baseball (New York Yankees), Football (The Miami Dolphins), Nascar (Jeff Gordan), and even Tennis (Them Williams Sisters). Carolyn enjoyed reading and was a member of the Elite Guild Book Club for many years. She loved to have family gatherings especially during the holidays so she could try her hand at fixing a new dish. Carolyn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years Charles Leroy “Joe” Rivers, Sr.; mother Edith Turner; father Edward Turner; biological mother Geraldine Wright and biological father James P. DePriest; siblings, Barry DePriest, Charles DePriest, Cecila Williams, Betty Hurdle and Kennard Brown, Sr. She leaves behind to cherish her memory – daughters, Charlene (Eric) Rivers Kenney, Natasha Sheronne Rivers and Alma Nicole Rivers and her “Baby” Charles (Catherine) Rivers, Jr.; two bonus children Darrin (Karent) Rivers and Patrice (Elishama) Rivers-Wheeler; 4 adored grandchildren, Octavia who was a devoted caregiver, Camille and the twins, Caleb and Caiden; bonus grandchildren, Richard, Jordan, Javen, Brittney, Brett Jr., and Victoria; 3 bonus great-grandchildren, Ke’Shion, Appolo and Daxston Charles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, great friends and close acquaintances. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and patience. Throughout her life, Carolyn Rivers loved all of whom she came in contact with and the best part of it, all they loved back.
