Carnell H. Spencer

I, CARNELL HAYWOOD SPENCER, known affectionately as “Spence” and “Pop Pop” to family and friends, made my triumphant entrance into this world October 31, 1945 in Hopewell, VA to Willie and Alice Spencer, and I departed this life on November 30, 2013. I attended public schools and later moved to Baltimore, MD with close ties to Washington, D.C. I had five brothers and sisters, Ophelia Farmer, Carl Spencer (deceased), Alice Lee Morris (deceased), Sarah Baker (deceased), and Mary Ellen Allen (deceased). I married Asalie Spencer in 1965, and we added to our existing family (Celitta White and Willie Burnett) three children: Rosalyn Spencer, Carnell Spencer, Jr. and Carl Spencer, all of whom I shall miss very much. I was blessed to have worked in areas that I truly loved, including driving, thirteen years as a meat cutter, and my last position in housekeeping in the Hyperbaric Chamber at The University of Maryland. They are and always will be an extension of my family. I have often been told that I was a very unique character, charming, witty and intelligent. Most people who knew me realized that I cared deeply for all of my family and friends, and would literally give the shirt off my back for each and every one of them. I would do so because I wanted them to know each and every day how much I loved and appreciated them. I a very proud of the sharp sense of humor I possessed, as it helped “catch you off guard” and keep you on your toes. You know you couldn't “go to sleep” with me around! I pray that you will remember at least one time I was ablt to brighten your day with my unique brand of humor. I leave behind to cherish my memory: my wife, Asalie Spencer; five children, Celitta (Carlos) White, Willie (Tanya) Burnett, Rosalyn Spencer, Carnell Spencer, Jr. and Carl Spencer; thirteen grandchildren, Star Rowell, Sharica (April) Harris, LaCrystal Melson, Raivyn Melson, Carlos White II, Carnelia (Kevin) Jones, Steven Craig Jr., Willie Burnette Jr., Andre Burnett, Deborah Burnett, Clifton Burnett, Carnell Spencer III and Carl Spencer III; seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
