Carl C. Jackson

CARL JACKSON was the first born to the late Peggy Jackson-Cevis and Joseph Payne on May 4, 1949. He departed this earth after a lengthy illness, but God let him see his last sunrise and celebrate his last birthday. Carl was a happy child who loved to sing and dance. He attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated with honors. He attended Bowie State College and graduated with an Art Degree. After which, he taught Art in the Baltimore Public School System for two years. He went into the Army Reserve for four years and was given an Honorable Discharge. He still had aspirations to be in the medical field and worked very hard to get there. His passion was Radiology and he was always fascinated by the anatomy and x-rays. Carl went straight out of the Army Reserve into Johns Hopkins Hospital Radiology and his expertise in this field took him to numerous other hospitals in Maryland. Carl loved to go out on the weekends and especially to the Jazz clubs that his Aunt Ruby Glover was performing in. He was a Fashionista and at times would wear his own designs to the cabarets and night clubs astounding everyone who he came in contact with. Carl truly enjoyed making friends, entertaining, and just having a good time. His famous attire was the long scarf that he always adorned himself in of many colors and patterns. With his long hair and Indian features, he was so handsome and dapper as he strolled into the establishment. Everyone was in awe. Carl was a chef at heart, and boy could he cook! Every summer there was a cookout at Carl's with some new and improved dish that we all had to taste, or some drink that he would concoct that you had better not say no to! He truly loved his family and until he got sick would take the time on holidays to visit and spend quality time with them. He was a doting son, and trusting uncle, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. Then Carl fell in love and during the last few years he enjoyed the company and companionship of his partner, Michael. Their relationship blossomed and you could tell that their love was everlasting. Michael stood by him until the very end and the family loves him for his loyalty. Carl leaves to mourn: his loving partner, Michael; father, Joseph Payne; sister, Thureen Drake; many aunts, cousins, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, other family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
