Carl Anthony Harris Sr

Journey of Life Carl Anthony Harris, Sr, suddenly passed away at his home on April 19, 2025. He was born in Baltimore Maryland on August 7, 1939, and was the eldest son of the late John and Elmira Harris and brother to the late Myra and Wilfrid. Carl was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was married to the former Joan Coleman for over 56 years and from their union were two daughters, Angela and Jean. He also had 2 sons Carl, Jr. (Tony) and Todd from his first marriage to the late Patricia Johnson. He was baptized at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Baltimore Maryland. He was educated in the Baltimore City Public school system and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 1958. He received an honorable discharge from his military service in the US Army in November 1966. He was proud of his military service, and he often talked about the places where he was stationed: Hawaii, Seattle, Formosa and Korea where he spent 1 year. He also talked about his job in the Army as a cryptographer. He later served in the Army Reserves. After his military service, Carl began his 28-year career as a mail handler at the US Postal Service. He worked mostly in the airmail facility at BWI airport. He was also a Mail Handler Union Shop Steward. He retired in 1994. He loved all sports, but football, baseball and basketball were his favorites. He was a huge fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles. His favorite news channel was Fox45 where he kept abreast of current events, local and world politics. Also, his favorite game shows were Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and he and Joan enjoyed watching these shows together along with televised football, basketball, and baseball games. Carl loved to listen to music. He liked R&B, Doo-wop, but Bebop Jazz was Carl’s favorite. He loved to listen to Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Ella Fitzgerald, and many other jazz artists. His favorite R&B singer was Aretha Franklin. Carl was also an artist. His favorite were charcoal drawings and clay sculptures. He was well known in the Upton neighborhood, where he lived most of his life. He was a friend to everyone who knew him. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elmira Harris, his son, Carl Jr., his brother Wilfrid and his sister Myra. He leaves to mourn, his wife Joan, his children, Angela, Jean (Anthony)and Todd, his grandchildren, Tony (Jocilyn), Tierra, Tyler, Tanner, Tyree, Taylor, Kamron and Zoe, his great grandchildren, Gavin, Gabrielle and Amir and daughters in law, Yulanda and Jacque. He is survived by, his cousin Constance, his brothers in law and sisters in law, many nephews and nieces and host of many friends and family. Although Carl is gone, he will not be forgotten, he will live in our hearts forever.
