Calvin L. Harris, Sr.

Calvin L. Harris, Sr. son of the late Walter L. Harris and Lucille Harris was born on September 27, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on March 5, 2017 after a lengthy illness. He attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Baltimore City. Calvin joined the United States Air Forces July 19, 1954 where he served in his country and was honorably discharges December 10, 1962. He obtained employment at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. At the time of his retirement; he had achieved promotion to the position of Turn Foreman After retirement he continued his desire to both continue his education and work . He attended Anne Arundel Community College where he entered into their criminal Justice Program. Additionally, on October 1, 1986 he was employed by the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Md where he worked until his health would no longer allow him to in 1991. On September 2, 1967 Calvin was united in Holy Matrimony to Joyce Howard in Baltimore, Maryland Out of this union one child, Michelle, was born, however a happy blended family was created with the children from previous unions. Calvin was a dedicated husband and father and touched the lives of so many others who crossed his path. He was an avid reader, sports, enthusiast, and could hold conversation with anyone he met. Elder Calvin Harris was a member of The Empowering Believers Church where he served faithfully until his health prevented him from being an active member. Whenever he was asked to do something on the behalf of the church he was always willing to be a consultant and advisory to the pastor, Apostle Larry Lee Thomas. Elder Harris was an administrator who assisted the ministry on many occasions. He served as a deacon and served as chairman for many years. Elder Harris gift to the ministry allowed him to serve on the Joint Board that assisted the church during its transition from St. James Church to the Empowering Believers Church. He was a great teacher especially when he taught The Oneness of God classes He traveled with Apostle Thomas on many occasions especially to the Urban Alternative Conference in Dallas, Texas and Conferences in Barbados. Elder Harris loved his church family. Calvin leaves to mourn in passing; his wife, Joyce V. Harris; five sons, Calvin L. Harris, Jr. (preceded him in death),Donald L. Harris, Sheldon L. Harris (who preceded him in death), Robert C. Howard and Kevin A. Harris; one daughter, Michelle E. King; two daughters-in-law, Dorian King and Rosalyn Howard; four brothers, William Harris, Jr Maurice Harris (preceded him in death) and Marvin Harris; two sisters Burnice Harris (preceded him in death) and Martha Ervin; three grandsons, Stanley Howard, James King III and Donald Harris, Jr. five granddaughters, Terri Dorsey, Lakeisha Howard, Nicole Howard, Kelly Key and Crystal Harris; and a host of other relatives and friends.
