Calvin M. Beverly

It was around 11:00 p.m. on December 24, 2020 when CALVIN M. BEVERLY departed life. He was the seventh son, the 13th and youngest child born to the late S. Nathaniel Beverly and Esther Marie Freeman Beverly. He was born around 9:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 1950. It was a little odd, his birth was four days ahead of an older sibling Esther, who turned sixteen on February 10th. The old doctor that delivered him proudly announced he was the last baby he was going to deliver, and he was sticking to all other medical practices from now on. Of course Michael’s mother proudly announced he was the last child she would have. His family always called him by his middle name “Michael” (Mike). His years in elementary school were at the Samuel Coleridge Taylor School in the 500 block of West Preston Street. He worked as a safety patrol, helping kids with crossing the street. He loved working with tools such as the hammer, screw drivers, etc. He later attended the Harlem Park Junior High School. He happily hugged his parents as he dressed to go to his graduation from jr. high school. In the fall he entered Baltimore City College for high school (1965). His father passed in 1966. was the man of the house and became very close with his mother and two older sisters that were still living home. He graduated from City College in 1968 and worked for Hutzlers while trying to prepare for college. There was a break in his education because he was inducted into the U.S. Army at the age of 19. His mother’s heart was heavy because her baby was going away for two years. Michael was in the military from Oct. 1969 to Sept. 1971. His mother passed in 1970 while he was serving overseas in Europe. After his discharge from the service, he returned home where he attended Morgan State University and graduated with a degree in business administration. He worked as a manager of a Subway Restaurant, did work in rehabbing and restructuring houses. He also worked in metal works and carpentry. Michael learned to design and make clothing, worked with computers and learned to work on automobiles. As he grew older, he began to gather arthritis in his lower limbs and had to move around with a walker to help him. His fiancee passed several years before him. He now joins the 11 other siblings who passed before him. Only one sibling remains, Octavia, who lovingly cared for him in his final days. He also leaves nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and a host of friends
