Brooklyn Harlee, Jr.

Brooklyn Harlee, Jr., son of the late Brooklyn and Mae Harlee, Sr., was born September 13, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life quietly on February 18, 2015. He is a graduate of Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School and attended Loyola College. While serving a tour in Vietnam June was wounded and honorably discharged from the United States Army. After working diligently for more than thirty years for the Maryland State Department of Child Support Enforcement, June retired to relax and live his life in the manner he most enjoyed. Pastor Eugene Grove, Senior Pastor of New Frontiers of Faith Baptist Church, a friend and co-worker, baptized June in 1986. In the presence of family and friends, he married the love of his life, LaVern Wright, on July 30, 2009. They enjoyed a relationship built upon love, commitment and mutual respect. June and LaVern found pleasure in listening to music, visiting family and going on cruises until his illness prevented them from during so. June, known for his "professional attire", was always well dressed. However, following retirement, he developed a love for the western look. He began wearing cowboy boots and belts adorned with western ornamental buckles. We cannot forget his signature jeans with the military starched crease. To finish his look, he worn big brim western hats. He had talents that few people knew about, he was an artist, a body builder and a "Den Father." June found much delight in creating canvasses covered with vibrant oil paints of relaxing land scrapes and stimulating abstracts. Often his art would be on display and sold at various local art galleries in downtown Baltimore. June enjoyed enhancing his muscles. He competed in body building competitions and won many trophies.Additionally, he served as "Den Father" for the Camp Fire Girls Troop within his community for several years. June's son Brooklyn Harlee, Ill and his brother Vincent Harlee, Sr. preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted wife, LaVern; three sons, Kevin, Brooklyn, IV and David; four daughters, Jacqueline, Sonya (Ali), Vanessa and Adrian; three stepchildren, Kalena (Alex), Nathan, and Nikki (Joey); two brothers, George (Marsha), Dennis (Diane); three sisters, Brenda (James), Bernadette (Randolf), and Quindairian (Ricky); one uncle, John Walter Harlee; three aunts, Annie Mae Williams, Sarah Harlee, and Alice Harlee; several dear friends, Jeremiah, David, Elzina Scott, Clarence Alston, Brenda and James Taylor, James Barnett, James McCall and Leroy Yates.
