Brenda Jackson

Brenda Jackson was born on August 22, 1946, in Richmond, Virginia to the late James Edward Jackson and Ethel Nicholson Jackson. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Ethel Jackson. Brenda was a graduate of Maggie L. Walker High School, Class of 1963. She participated with the Dancing Dolls, in which The Dolls lined the football field and danced during games. After graduating in 1963, Brenda enlisted in the Air Force. She completed basic training in Texas and completed her tour in Montgomery, Alabama. Following her tour, she returned to home to Richmond, Virginia, and decided she wanted to attend nursing school. Brenda enrolled into MCV to obtain her LPN. She completed her program and received her LPN degree in January 1965. She decided to further her education and received her degree as a Registered Nurse a few years later. Brenda was baptized at an early age. She often attended Riverview Baptist Church. Brenda accepted a position in the Pediatric Unit at MCV. She enjoyed working with the babies and soon was promoted to the Head Nurse for the Pediatric Unit. Brenda maintained her position at MCV until she retired. In February 1988, Brenda became the mother of her pride and joy, Komeca Brendetta Jackson. Brenda would sing “Just The Two of Us” to Koko. She took her role as a mother with pride. Nothing and no one meant more to her than her baby girl. She never let her leave the house without telling her she loved her in their special way. Brenda instilled her love and values into Koko who remained by her side. Brenda had a love for arts and crafts. She truly enjoyed doing school projects with Koko. She enjoyed listening to music while sewing and working on her crafts. She could spend hours in JoAnn’s Fabrics perusing the aisles. In addition to her love of crafts, she LOVED QVC and HSN! Brenda enjoyed placing orders for the latest gadgets and Dooney & Bourke bags. Brenda collected Mickey and Minnie figurines along with anything pigs. Brenda never missed a Harry Potter book release and when it became a movie...It was on repeat. Brenda’s smile could light up the room and she had an infectious laugh. She was extremely soft-spoken but feisty. Brenda is survived by her daughter, Komeca B. Jackson; two sisters, Joyce M. Carter (James) and Lorraine Hines; one brother, Arturo R. Jackson (Robin); one niece, L’Oreal Hines; two nephews, Gregory Moore and Brandon Hines Sr. (LooKeba); two great nieces, Skylar Hines and Kennedy Hines; and one great nephew, Brandon Hines, Jr. She also leaves to cherish her memory devoted friends, Pat Fleming, Connie McNeill, and Cheryl Watkins, a devoted cousin, Marsha Iverson. Brenda also leaves Granny’s Baby, Kody to cherish her memory.
