Brenda Amanda Davis

Our beloved Brenda Amanda Davis, 61, of Richmond, Virginia departed this life on May 23, 2014. Left to cherish her loving memory: mother, Estelle Patrick; two sisters, Joann Bolling and Queen Thomas; three brothers, Willie, Calvin, and Joseph Sr. Patrick; a host of nieces and nephews, Clayton Bolling Jr., Nicole Bolling, Brenda Brown, Marie Patrick, Raquel Patrick; and four in which she lovingly referred to as her children, Joseph Patrick Jr., Shadesha McShine, Jamarcus McShine, and Kendall Thomas; devoted aunt, Eunice Burrow; extended family and lifelong friends, James Harvey, Renae Davis and many others. Whether you knew her as “Big Bass Brenda” (true story), Mom, Dad, Sister, Aunt, Soul mate- Friend, you became or were made keenly aware, that Brenda Davis meant many things, to many different people. Born in 1952, July 12th, Brenda Davis came into this world, in the same manner that she would eventually leave, which is to say, in-charge. Although she was the 4th child to be welcomed into the home of Estelle Patrick (Mother), Brenda Davis quickly became, and remained, the Matriarch, often adopting the principles of “By any means necessary”, when it came to protecting her family…one does not obtain the title of ‘The Big Boss’ any other way. Though she never had any children of her own, she poured her time, heart and soul into caring for not only her nieces and nephews, who in some cases were products of single parent homes, but also other youth, whose situations she sought to improve. It was often a running joke that Aunt Brenda (who was an avid basketball fan) had turned her back on her beloved Detroit Pistons, as she would regularly root or seemingly favor whichever team was good that season. But she would always respond, “I’m still a Detroit fan-Bad Boys, they will always be my heart”. We will never speak again, our time, as all things will, have come to end. For the love, wisdom, inspiration, opportunity and devotion in which she selflessly gave to us all, no matter her individual circumstance, let us be sure that she will forever remain in ours.
