Brandon Davon McMurrin Jr.

On Sunday, November 5, 2006, at 6:43 p.m., Brandon Da’von McMurrin Jr. was born at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Earlier that morning, around six o’clock, his mother, Candace, had gone into labor while preparing for church. Little did she know that before the day was over, her life would be forever changed by the birth of her first child. From the very beginning, Brandon was determined to do things his own way. By eight months old, he was walking and quickly decided baby food wasn’t for him—he wanted what everyone else was eating. That independent spirit stayed with him throughout his life. No matter how much he achieved, to his mother, he would always be her firstborn, her mama’s boy, and one of the greatest blessings God ever gave her. Brandon attended Dr. Bernard Harris Sr. Elementary School (#250), Sandalwood Elementary School, Deep Creek Middle School, and Chesapeake High School. While attending Chesapeake, he also enrolled in the Culinary Arts program at Sollers Point Technical High School, where he earned his American Culinary Federation (ACF) Certification in 2025. Education mattered to Brandon because he believed in building a future for himself. Through hard work and dedication, he earned a full scholarship to Morgan State University, majoring in Finance and minoring in Culinary Arts. He wasn’t one to settle for a single dream—he wanted to learn, grow, and make something meaningful out of every opportunity he was given. Sports played a major role in Brandon’s life. He proudly wore #64 on the football field and #20 on the lacrosse field. Lacrosse quickly became one of his greatest passions, but what made Brandon special wasn’t just how he played—it was how he gave back. After graduating, he returned to mentor younger lacrosse players at Chesapeake High School, wanting them to have the same encouragement and opportunities he had received. Away from school and sports, Brandon's creativity flourished in ways many never noticed. He had a passion for writing screenplays and dreamed of seeing his stories come to life on the big screen. Just before his passing, he proudly announced that he received a callback after auditioning for a movie role, one of many aspirations he was pursuing. When not immersed in writing, Brandon could often be found watching *Naruto*, playing video games, spending time on his computer, cheering for his favorite football teams, or indulging in delicious food. He had a love for cooking, enjoyed exploring new dishes, and worked as a line cook at the Merritt Clubs Canton Rooftop Pool Bar while juggling school and all that life had to offer. Brandon had a magnetic personality that drew people in. Initially quiet, he quickly revealed his humorous and animated side once he felt comfortable. He had a warm smile, a sharp wit, and a unique ability to make others feel at home. Among all of Brandon's achievements, nothing held more significance than the relationships he cherished. He treasured moments spent with family and friends, particularly his favorite cousin, Chris, who felt more like a brother, along with his cousins Narelle and Sarai. He took great pride in being a big brother to Bree Marie, Leeah, Kylee, and Lil Nard Jr. Brandon's memory will be cherished by his loving mother, Candace Brock; his father, Brandon McMurrin Sr.; his sisters, Bree Marie, Leeah, and Kylee; his little brother, Lil Nard Jr.; his grandmother, Yvette; his great-grandmother, Carolyn; his great-uncle, Montini; his fathers-in-love, Kenneth and Nard Sr.; his Godmother, Collin; his devoted aunts, Talisa, Tracie, Cori, and Asia; his loving uncle, Jae; his beloved cousin and brother, Chris; his cousins, Narelle and Sarai; his special friend, Destini; and countless grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, teammates, coaches, classmates, coworkers, mentors, and friends who will forever hold onto the memories they created with him. He will always be loved. He will always be remembered. He will always be our Brandon.
