Blanche Crenshaw Webb

Born in Red Oak, Virginia to the late Antena Ferrel Crenshaw and Charles Price Crenshaw on July 17, 1928, Mrs. Blanche C. Webb was the beloved wife of her husband, the late Mr. Charles C. Webb, Sr. with whom she raised nine children in Richmond, Virginia. Together they shared a happy and lively home where extended family and the neighborhood kids would often gather socially. Music and laughter poured from their abode and the close couple shared a love of fishing, just one of their many outdoor activities. It was their love for each other, as well as children that had made rearing their large brood so easy. Respect and hard work were the examples they left as a living legacy. Blanche Crenshaw Webb or “Babe Ruth” as she was nicknamed because of her fondness for baseball as a spectator and participant was an active member of the Churchill community and are home church, Mt. Olivet Baptist Church at 25th and “S” Streets. She was a powerfully outspoken woman in her own quiet way. She did not rise to complaints about the world in which you lived; however she spoke volumes in her devotion and involvement in the NAACP and Senior Citizen Voters and other community groups. In her spare time she was also a soul food and gospel lover. Ma Blanche will always be best remembered for how she may feel comfortable in being yourself by the way she did not put on airs for anyone. Humble yet, classy she was simply her own “sophisticated self”! Everyone was welcome at her table as long as you washed your hands because if you didn’t- she made you. Her memory was as remarkable as she was and her humor never missed a beat. Recently her eldest daughter tripped and took a small tumble while visiting her at home. Mom turned slowly to look as the noisy the crash left Barbara unscathed but on the floor no less and asked, “Barb”? Was that you falling down? Her daughter replied “Yes, ma’am...” Mom resumed her relaxed and recline position and stated with a small grin, “Better you than me.” Mom then laughed and poked her playful with her cane. That was truly the essence of Mom. She was the ultimate survivor. Making the best of things is an understatement describing her. Content with whatever the Lord provided her, she strived to live frugally, but her children doted on her and tried (to no avail) to spoil her by lavishing her smallest wish. She was received into the bosom of the Lord as she transitioned to Him from their hope-filled loving arms. She is survived by her daughters, Min. Barbara L. Johnson( Roy), Costa and Coe ( Dean), Brenda C. Webb, Charlena Webb, Camelia B. Webb and Rev. Blanche A. Faulk( Randy) and her sons, Charles C. Webb, Jr., Cornell J. Webb and Jerome Webb and her grandchildren; James P. Webb( Sharon) ,Derrick J. Webb( Erica).Ahmad Mandela Webb, James H. Webb, Thomeka N. Webb, LaToya F. Webb,Khadidra Y. Webb, DeMario Y. Webb and DeVonte` E. Webb and 16 sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law. two adult granddaughters and one grown grandson.
