Billie L. Mitchell

God is His infinite wisdom called his child Billie Louis Mitchell, home from labor to reward on January 28, 2002. Billie, the second of ten children born to the late Adalaide and Arthur Mitchell was born on March 10, 1924, in Northampton county, North Carolina. After completing his education in the Northampton county Public School System. He joined the United States Army on October 9, 1944, and was Honorably discharged on November 28, 1946. After completing his tour of duty he trained to become a Bricklayer under the GI Bill. Billie loved his trade and excelled in it laying bricks for many years in Newport New, Virginia and Baltimore. He helped to build the K-Mart on Northern Parkway, the Hecht Company on Edmondson Avenue and many other commercial buildings and homes throughout the State. After his health began to fail, he retired from bricklaying and became employed in the custodial field at the Shriff Realty Company in downtown Baltimore. Billie united in holy matrimony with Doris Bell of North Carolina. From this union there was one daughter, Vickie. After moving to Baltimore, he met Martha Wagstaff, his long time companion and mother of his daughter Angela. Billie accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and was baptized at The Gaston Baptist Church in North Carolina. At the time of his death, he was a member of First Mt. Calvary Baptist Church located on Fulton Avenue. He was member of The Most worshipful King Solomon Grand Lodge for many years. Billie was a very friendly and jovial person who loved to tell jokes. Billie was a loving and proud father, a devoted brother, and a good friend to all who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Vickie Edwards of Elizabeth City, North Carolina and Angela Carrington of Baltimore, Four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two brothers, Joe (Mary) and Rawls (Doris) of Baltimore, Maryland; five sisters, Bertha Johnson (Davis) of Richmond, Virginia, Mariah Squire (James) of Baltimore, Md., Shirley Carlino (Joe) of North Carolina, Martha Smith (Robert) of New York, and Zyble Mallory (Paul) of Richmond, VA; a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Mitchell of Temple, Texas; a very special friend, Ida Marie Canada, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends. (Two brothers Nathaniel and Arthur, Jr., preceded him in death).
