Beverly Yvonne Shelton

Beverly yvonne ShelTon was born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 21, 1944 to Mary Ferguson and the late Launey P. Ferguson, Sr. Although she put up a courageous fight, she succumbed to illness on July 7, 2014. Beverly, affectionately known as “E”, was the second oldest of five children. She received her education in the Baltimore County Public School System. She was baptized at an early age at New Shiloh Baptist Church in Turners Station, Maryland. On February 10, 1963, Beverly and James Shelton Sr., “C”, were married and from this union three children were born. “E” was a very loving and devoted mother. Beverly began working as an assembler at Western Electric in 1970. She remained a dedicated employee until the plant closed in 1985. In September, 1985, Beverly began working at the Department of Defense, National Security Agency in Microelectronics as a Crypto Material Worker and later became everyone’s favorite Program Manager. As she approached her retirement in December, 2012, she commented, “I never realized when I started working in NSA that I would make so many wonderful friends, that I would take part and do some of the most interesting work and that together we would face so many challenges and do great things.” Beverly was devoted to her family and enjoyed family gatherings. She took joy in trying new recipes to share at get-togethers. She loved to shop and her two favorite stores were Chico’s and Talbots. She also loved collecting unique pieces of jewelry and artwork. Beverly took great pride in her home and worked tirelessly to keep it immaculate. Beverly, lovingly known as “Little Ma” to her grands, had a special affinity for her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and spoiling them. One of Beverly’s special talents was singing. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed harmonizing with her three sisters who were dubbed “The Golden Girls” by their Uncle Bill. We’ll all miss the famous “What’s Your Name?”, their signature song. She leaves behind to cherish her sweet memories: her mother, Mary Ferguson; three children, Desiree, James, and Derrick (Katrina); three sisters, Norma Bush, Belinda Gardner (James), and Beatrice Burrow (Everett); her favorite brother, Lonnie Ferguson Jr.; six grandchildren, Jessica, Jamal, Maya, Evan, Derrell and Alisha; three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jamal Jr. and Rihan; two special family friends, Wayne and Pauleen; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
