Beulah Mae Hurt-Hopkins

The angels came forth to carry our beloved Beulah Hurt Hopkins, form labor to reward on Wednesday, August 2, 2006. Beulah was the daughter of (Charlie Hurt) and (Pinky Wright Hurt), and was born on February 3, 1926, in Green Bay, Virginia.During her youth, she received an early spiritual foundation based on Biblical teachings at Levi Baptist Church, where she accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ, as her personal Savior. As an adult, Beulah joined Fountain Baptist Church. Later, she became a member of Ray of Hope Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Altar Guild.Beulah received her primary education at Levi School in Prince Edward County, Virginia. She received the remainder of her education at Dunbar Junior /Senior High School.As a young woman, she was an employee for a number of years at Western Electric. Beulah transitioned to Raleigh Manufacturers, where she was employed as a seamstress for many years until her health failed her.Beulah was united in Holy Matrimony to Silas Hopkins in 1944. Silas and Beulah were married for 53 years. This union was blessed with two children, Tyrone and Celestine. Silas preceded Beulah in death in June 1997.Beulah was a people person who loved her family and friends dearly; we were always on her mind. Although in her last days she was confined to her bed, she maintained her humor, strength, and resilience. Beulah enjoyed life and lived it with style, imagination, and determination. Beulah loved to entertain family and friends. She was known for her meticulous housekeeping, flare for interior design, and her delicious meals and special dishes. Beulah loved the finer things in life, which was reflected in her fashionable appearance and the beauty of her home. We cannot think of her without thinking of her infectious smile and quick wit. Even though Beulah suffered chronic pain for most of her adult life, we who loved her found strength in her ability to persevere. She exhibited monumental strength, courage, and love to the very end, passing peacefully in her sleep.Beulah had five brothers and one sister who preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Tyrone Hopkins, her daughter, Celestine Hopkins, and her stepdaughter, Constance Edwards; grandchildren, Jendaye and Betserai Johnson, Marcus Hopkins, and step grandson, Charles Edwards Jr.; sisters-in-law, Ernestyne Johnson and Madeline White (William) both of Greenville, N.C., Vivian White (Andrew) of Baltimore, Md., Virgie Hopkins (Curtis) of Washington, D.C.; two brothers-in-law, David Hopkins of Baltimore, Md., And Curtis Hopkins of Washington, D.C.; one aunt, Mary Hurt of Crowe, Va.; a daughter of the heart, Deborah Nelson of Baltimore, Md., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
