Bettie Jean Brown

Bettie J. Brown, daughter of the late Willie Commodore and Curlie Mae Commodore was born on July 31, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her formal education in the Baltimore City Public School System. In 1966 Bettie met and began dating the love of her life, Charles E. Brown. In 1989 Charles and Bettie were united in Holy Matrimony. They were inseparable love birds; always together.. you never saw one without the other. She took great pride in having such a good family man and she was his faithful helpmate. From this special union two families were joined together. They were blessed with seven children who Bettie Nurtured with unconditional love, guidance, wisdom and home cooking. Amongest the many dishes that were prepared, she was known for making her signature down home rice and greens that made you want to “smack your Momma” Betty also shared a special for her baby “Rockie “ a chilwawa that she made sure was cared for just as much as her family. Bettie enjoyed life with others and was truly a people person.“ To know her was to love her”.....She loved spending time with her family and friends., Everyone knew her affectionately as Mrs. Betty Boop. Again, I say “to know her was to love her.” She was known as a sweet, loving, and caring person, sometimes settled, but also a firecracker. She was the “ROCK” who held the family together. Fiery and feisty never holding any punches. Bettie was one who would always tell the truth about how she felt, whether you liked it or not …. you just accepted it and .kept it moving . This “little lady,” with eyes that would look right through you often gave the impression of having a hard shell but would smother everyone who entered her presence with love. She had a unique quality of making everyone feel “special” she loved everyone and everyone loved her. At the end of the day we knew what she said was fact, wisdom and out of love ...why wouldn't we go to her everything! Bettie's list of friends reads like a “Who 's Who's registry because she always kept it real! Everyone loved Mrs. Bettie Boop! We will miss her kind heart words of wisdom and most importantly her smile and exuberant laugh. On Sunday, February 17, 2013, God in his infinite wisdom, suddenly and gently took Bettie Jean Brown into his loving arms .where she is now making heaven tremendously missed by her loving family and friends alike. That twinkle in her eyes and the wave of her hands will resonate forever. Bettie leaves to cherish fond memories .her husband, Charles E. Brown; seven children, Curlie Jones (Ruben), Warren Commodore, Anita Smith (Eric), Lamont Brown (Kendra), Charles Brown, Jr. Vorcey and Andre(Angela); one brother, Gerald Commodore. (Tina); one sister , Annette one mother-in-law, preceded in death Etta Brown; two brother-in-laws, McKever Brown Ezekiel Brown, Jr.(Patricia); one sister-in-law, Vernel McClean of South Carolina; three sister-in-laws preceded her in death ; Mary Lee Stancil, Helen Minter and Annie Brown; thirteen grandchildren, one grandson (preceded her in death); twenty four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, two very special friends Joseph Markowitz, and hazel Wooten and many friends.
