Life’s Legacy Bessie Mae Spearman January 18, 1933 – June 25, 2025 Bessie Mae Spearman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully entered eternal rest in Richmond, Virginia. Born on January 18, 1933, in Lynchburg, Virginia, the cherished daughter of the late Lillie May Glover and William Neal Morrison. Bessie was educated in the Baltimore, Maryland school system, where she completed her high school education. She later made her home in Richmond, where she lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. Bessie was a devoted member of Great Hope Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Usher Ministry of the Loyal Ladies Usher Board, serving as President for numerous years, and was instrumental in organizing the Loyal Ladies Tea annually. She also served as Head Usher for GHBC and regularly enjoyed attending church conventions, which was another one of her greatest joys. She was united in holy matrimony to Lawrence Spearman, her loving husband of 35 years. Together, they shared a life filled with laughter, love, and spiritual purpose. Bessie retired from Colonial Printing Company, but her love for children and caring nature led her to open her own licensed in-home daycare, where she nurtured and cared for many children until her final retirement at the remarkable age of 89. Bessie was the backbone of the family. Her children were an extension of her heartbeat. She took care of everyone. Bessie was such a nurturing woman that loved her family. She will be remembered for her warm and uplifting spirit, her gentle kindness, and her timeless style. Bessie had a love for fashion, enjoyed taking pictures, and never missed an episode of her favorite soap operas and old westerns. On June 25, 2025, the Lord called, “Bessie, your place is ready here in heaven. It’s time to leave behind all those you dearly love.” He sent an angel to take her hand and walk with her to glory. Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved son, Clinton St. John Jr.; two sisters; and four brothers. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Lawrence Spearman; her loving niece, Renee Morrison; six Royal grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members and dear friends. Bessie Mae Spearman was a supportive, dedicated, and nurturing woman who poured love into every role she served. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and compassion will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing her.
