Bertha Mae Levine

Bertha Mae Levine was born November 23, 1939 to the late Elder Sandy Wilson, Sr. and the Late Mother Rebecca Wilson in Honey Hill, South Carolina. She was the tenth of fourteen children. After a lengthy illness at Genesis Homewood Center, God dispatched His angels to bring Bertha home on May 23, 2018. She received her education in Berkley County Public School system in Jamestown, South Carolina. On January 21, 1956, she was joined in holy matrimony to the love of her life, the late Samuel )Scrappy" Levine, Sr. of Shulerville, South Carolina. From this union eight children were born. In pursuit of better opportunities Samuel, Bertha and her young children moved to Baltimore, MD. in 1963. Bertha and her family joined the Highway Church of Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop Fred Page, Sr. She served as a faithful member of the Highway Gospel Choir. Mass Choir, Hospitality Committee and the Usher board. After the passing of Bishop Page,. she remained a member under Elder Jimmie C. Thompson, Sr. She later joined Greater St. Stephens Church of God under the leadership of Elder Victor Jackson in 2001, faithfully serving while her health allowed. As she would say. " God has been good to me all the time". In the early 1970's she was employed as a seamstress/ piece-worker as The Oscar de la Renta, Inc. She was also employed as Johns Hopkins as a House Keeper until retirement. Bertha was known as a Homebody who loved to cook. She could always find a good pot of stew and ?or soups at her home. But she was most famous for her holiday fruit cakes and pies. Bertha ventured out early in the morning to do her shopping and meet the needs of others, otherwise you would find her at home sewing, reading her bible, drinking her hot tea and spending time with her grandkids. She loved family gatherings especially frying fish on Fridays. Bertha's husband, Samuel, Sr., daughter, Sharon and son Joe Lewis preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory threesons, Samuel, Jr., (Nancy), Jacob (Sandra) and Joseph; three daughters, Rebecca (Fiance' Jobie), Rhondalia (Fiance' Christopher) and Karen; nineteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Arther Lee Wilson (Reola), Elder Sandy Wilson Jr. (Mahlia) and Oscar Lee Wilson (Ida); one devoted sister, Mazie Wilson Greene (Friendly); and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
