Bernice E. Jackson

BERNICE E. JACKSON was born October 19, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Hudson and Lillian Johnson. On May 26, 2017, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ plucked Bernice from His beautiful rose garden, to enter into eternal rest. Bernice received her formal education in the Baltimore City public schools, graduating from Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High. She worked at the First National Bank of America for several years. Later she became a substitute teacher at Elementary School #74, because she enjoyed working with children. October 1941, Clarence and Bernice were united in holy matrimony. They were blessed with three children, Brenda, Clarence, Jr. and Lawrence. Bernice was reared in a Christian home where she received her foundation in Christian living. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Edward J. Jordan. Later she joined “New Life Missionary Baptist Church”, under the leadership of Rev. Maxwell Johnson. Later she joined “Mt. Zion Hill Baptist Church”, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Marvin L. McFadden, where she served faithfully until her illness. Bernice was the family “Matriarch” who instituted “Family Values”. She taught her grandchildren to live a life of integrity. Bernice lead an unselfish life and always thought of others before herself. She especially enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren, they were a blessing to each other. Bernice enjoyed her family and they engaged in many family activities, picnics, barbecues and various holiday social gatherings. She loved to travel, (cruises, bus trips, etc.). Bernice loved baseball and football. She was a jovial person who loved to laugh. Her laughter lifted everyone’s spirit and was vibrant wherever she was. Bernice touched many lives through her loving and caring ways and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Bernice found strength in the ‘Word of God”. She was confident in her relationship with God and would proclaim “His Goodness” to all who would listen. During her illness, her faith never faltered. She would continually “Sing God’s Praises”. Bernice was preceded in death by Clarence, Sr.; sons, Clarence, Jr. and Lawrence, Sr.; and sisters, Lillie Mae Carter and Lelia Ann Harrison. Her memory will be cherished by: a loving and devoted daughter, Brenda J. Wilson; a loving and devoted daughter-in-law, Edna P. Jackson; loving and devoted grandchildren, Clarence H. Jackson III, Jocelyn B. Wallace (Henry), Lawrence E. Jackson, Jr., Keith E. Jackson (Conchetta), Lamont H. Jackson (Eutoby), Ryan G. Wilson (fiancée, Heather); sister-inlaw, Peggy Robinson (Otis); eleven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
