Bernard Douglas Johnson

Bernard Douglas Johnson, son of the late Edward Johnson and Betty Hensley - Williams, was born in Baltimore City. God gently called him to his heavenly home on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Harbor Hospital at Hospice. Bernard received his early education in Baltimore City Public Schools. Bernard had a son, Micah Johnson, from a previous marriage. On October 7, 1989, Bernard was united in holy matrimony to Jacqueline Fontaine Johnson, From this union, which lasted 34 years, one son was born, Deon Fontaine. Bernard faithfully served his country in the United States Army. He later Worked for Proctor Silex and for Donald Brown as a limousine driver. He would often go to March Funeral Home and drive for them, as well. Bernard eventually became employed by March Funeral Home, retiring after 28 years of dedicated service. While employed as a driver, Bernard Was blessed the opportunity of being sent to Mortuary Science School in Catonsville - all expenses paid by March Funeral Home Establishment. He earned his Associate of Arts degree and excelled from a driver to funeral director, supervisor and manager. Bernard retired from this establishment - March East. Bernard took pride in his work. He was professional and always provided excellent customer service. Throughout the funeral home business, Bernard met a lot of people and was well liked. Never at a loss for words, Bernard freely spoke his mind. He was a take charge person. Once he set out to do something, there was no changing his mind. Outside of that, Bernard was a family man. He always checked on his family, especially on holidays and birthdays. If anyone in the family was not feeling well, Bernard would check on them until they felt better. In addition to his parents, Bernard was preceded in death by two grandsons, Darrell Johnson and DeJuane Beverly. Bernard leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Jacqueline Johnson; two sons, Micah Johnson (Dedrah) and Deon Fontaine, Sister, Constance Williams; brother Ray Thompson (Martha); sister-in-law, Caroline Johnson (Sidney); two brothers-in-law, Alphonso Fontaine (Rosetta) and George Fontaine (Mona); grandchildren, Micah A. Johnson, Kamille Fontaine, Kalece Fontaine, Cierra Crawley, and Davion Mack; host of great - grandchildren; nieces, Onterian McClary (Chuck) and Karen Davis; nephew Kevin Davis (Pamela); host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special cousin, Elizabeth “Punky” Cosby; and one longtime friend, Arnold Morgan (Jean); special recognition is given to his niece, Dr. Tanisha Powell, who provided support and medical expertise during Bernard’s illness, and his dear cousin, Darlene Johnson, who was by his wife’s side from the time Bernard took ill until his transition.
