Bernadette Brooks

Bernadette Brooks, the eldest of eleven kids of the late Herbert and Mary Johnson was born on August 23, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland. On May 24, 1971, she married the love of her life, Earl Charles Brooks. The last week of her life was so incredible. She was so happy. You had to be there to witness the love that filled her room while she was surrounded by ALL of her family and friends. Bernadette passed peacefully after a lengthy illness on February 25, 2017. Bernadette, who was fondly called: Mama, Nana, Ms. B, Aunt Bernie and Mrs. Brooks was educated in the Baltimore City School System. Bernadette had several jobs, but the one she loved the most was volunteering in the Baltimore City School System. Bernadette loved people. She not only cared for her family, but helped anyone who needed her. If you needed advice, someone to talk to or needed information about any situation, Mama, Nana, Ms. B, Aunt Bernie and Mrs. Brooks was your go to person. If you were hungry, she would feed you. If you needed a place to stay, she opened her house to you. Bernadette not only took care of kids, she also took care and spent time with elderly. When she wasn't busy taking care of her family, she loved doing crossword puzzles, reading, watching TV, or just going on a nice long ride to help soothe her mind. Bernadette is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Brooks, her eldest child, Kevin Thomas and her parents, Herbert and Mary Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memories: 1 son-Larry Thomas (Cheryl) 4 daughters-Pamela Brown (Eugene), Joye Thomas, Joycetta Brooks and Yvonne Archibong (James) 1 stepson-Larry Brooks, 8 sisters-Brenda Johnson (Dublin), Yvonne Gregory, Rayetta Anthony (Ron), Eleanor Moore, Phyllis Lee (Bill), Valerie Perkins-Lee, Jill Britton (Valentine), Sherry Omohimoria, 2 brothers-Herbert Johnson Jr. (Gloria) and Eric Johnson (Kimberly), 1 aunt Sandy Jenkins, 1 uncle Samuel (Butch) Dublin, 16 grandkids, 14 great-grandkids, 1 Godson-Timothy Earl Johnson, Best Friend-Karen Brooks, adopted sister Katie Gorman, adopted brother, John Blackwell, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and countless number of kids and grandkids she helped raise.
