Benjamin Franklin McIver III

Benjamin Franklin McIver, III was born on June 10, 1942, in Darlington, South Carolina to Benjamin Franklin McIver, Jr and Carrie Johnson McIver, who preceded him in death. Sadly, he departed this life on June 11, 2026, (1 day after celebrating his 84th birthday) after a lengthy illness at Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, Maryland. Ben, who was affectionately known as “Lump”, received his education in the Darlington, South Carolina Public School System. After graduating from Mayo Senior High School, he moved to Baltimore, Maryland, and soon enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged. While in the military, Ben met and married the loved of his life Charlotte Marie Woodland who preceded him in death. They were married for over 55 years and to this union was born 1 son, Dante. After leaving the Army, Ben was employed by Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Sparrows Point, Maryland. This job he worked for many years until he retirement. After his retirement, Ben was a volunteer at the Our Daily Bread Homeless Shelter which he worked faithfully until his health started to fail. Ben was such a dedicated worker that he was featured in one of the monthly Our Daily Bread Newsletters. Ben had 1 favorite thing he loved to do and that was to go over to Mondawmin Mall to sit and people watch. If we went to his home and he was not there, we knew exactly where he was; he was at his “2nd home”, as Charlotte used to say. Ben was also preceded in death by 1 brother, Americus (Mack) McIver, and 6 sisters, Francine Hart, Elma Joe, Carrie Mae Samuel, Eva Mae Jackson, Lila Backus and Jacqueline Williams. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving son Dante, his beautiful granddaughter Mikaila Grace, 4 brothers, Elder Raymond Foxe, Joe (Sonnie) Louis McIver, Apostle Glenn J McIver, and Michael McIver. 4 sisters, Carolyn Smith, Benzener Stallings, Vanessa B McIver, and Sharann Toatley 5 brothers-in-law, Cornel Joe, Rhodney Toatley, Alphonso Williams, James T Woodland, Jr, and Linwood Outlaw, 8 sisters in law Bernadine McIver, Shirley Foxe, Cynthia McIver, Shana McIver, Rochelle Woodland, Kathy Woodland Outlaw and Naomi Woodland, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
