Beatrice Thomas Yancey

Beatrice passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital at the age of 88. Beatrice is preceded by her late husband Andrew Yancey, mother Sally Thomas, sister-in-law, Mildred Yancey, and great grandchild Kheenan Marrow. Beatrice will forever be remembered by her beloved children, Shirley Anderson, André Yancey, and Dr. Anthony Yancey, four grand-children; Damaris Drew, Edward Marrow,Jr.,Joshua Yancey,and Justin Yancey,four great-grandchildren,Tahtyana Marrow,Tawian Charity,Tamirrah Drew, and Tequoia Drew, three devoted caregivers, Daisy Henderson,Mabele Scott and Sheri Bridges and a host of relatives and friends. Beatrice was born April 20, 1929 in Richmond, Virginia (Newtown Area). She married the love of her life, Andrew Yancey, November 8, 1947. Beatrice was one of the original members of Holy Rosary where she earned the third row. She had a special love for the Blessed Virgin Mary and prayed the Rosary on a daily basis. She had a Rosary in almost every room of her house. Beatrice loved to praise and worship. She also enjoyed fellowshipping with parishioners of Holy Rosary. She will always be remembered for her famous potato salad at the Knights of Columbus events she attended with her late husband. Beatrice was a blessing to Richmond Public Schools serving 30 years as a school cashier. Even though, she didn’t have to work because she was well taken care of by her late husband. She chose to work for 30 years for 30 years of her life to offer her services to the community. Beatrice spent many of her days shopping at Thalhimers, Allan Furs, and Berry Burke. Beatrice and her husband also spent many days traveling together to Las Vegas, cross-country train trips, Atlantic City, and twice to China. She was truly in love with her husband not only did they travel together but she was his biggest cheerleader. She went to aerobics classes, Tai chi, and swim meets to support her husband. She never missed a swim meet cheering for her husband (coach) and grandson (swimmer). Beatrice and her husband also enjoyed skating and dancing together. She loved to entertain family and friends by singing and playing on the piano her favorite song “Precious Lord Take My Hand”. She also loved to sit on her back porch and talk to neighbors, friends, family, and whoever passed by. She will always be remembered as “Driving Miss Daisy” for she would always wait for someone to open and close her car door. We will never forget Beatrice and Andrew Yancey, lovers of a lifetime.
