Beatrice Louise Garland

Beatrice Thomas Garland."Aunt Bea" as she was affectionately called,by her family and friends alike,was born in Glen Allen,Virginia on February 11, 1932.She was married in 1952 to John Garland,Sr. for 56 years and from this union eight loving and dedicated children were born. She loved her family dearly and is deeply loved by them.Early in life she accepted Christ as her personal Savior,and later became a member of Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She had a strong passion as leader of the Hospitality Committee,a position she held for over 25 years. She took pride in the duties she preformed;presentation was very important to her. She wanted everthing done in decency and in order. Cooking was her passion and she enjoyed preparing dishes for everyone she met and would feed anyone. Her extraordinary cooking ability was a gift from God and she was known far and wide for the meals which she prepared,especially her rolls. She held several other offices during her membership at Ephesus: Sabbath School Superintendent,Sanctuary Choir and BYKOTA Club member.During her many years of membership at Ephesus,she developed many long and meaningful relationships with several of its members,to name a few,Junetta Gant,Mr.& Mrs. Robert Lively,Dr.and Mrs. James Campbell,Dr. and Mrs. Halstead Howell,and Mr.and Mrs. William Minor,Sr.,Mr and Mrs.Joseph Holmes,Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Cheek. She loved her entire church family. She was employed by several businesses,such as,Miller & Rhoads,Holly Farms,Union Envelope and A.H. Robins,where she developed many long and lasting relationships.Beatrice was a very special person who had an impact on everyone she met. She loved people and people loved her;she made everyone feel very special. She was a very giving person;her desire was to make others happy. She had a heart of gold and was a true servant of God,a real Christian woman.Beatrice died peacefully on Saturday,February 23, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents,Elizabeth Thomas and Ernest Cousins,grandparents,sister,Sadie Preston,3 brothers,Nataniel,Emanuel and Junie. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband,John Garland,Sr.;3 daughters,Linda Garland,JoAnne Mixon(Wayne),Debbie Russell(Kevin);5 sons,John Garland,Jr.(Carol),Jimmie Garland(Cathy),Christopher Garland(Sheryl),Mitchell Garland,Patrick Garland;1 brother-in-law,Senior Garland;2 sisters-in-law,Rebecca Johnson and Lucille Garland;12 grandchildren,Keith Brown,Tiffany Garland,Melinda Garland,Katrina Garland,Johnathan Garland,Christian Garland,Danielle Davis,Madison Anderson,Cameron Garland,Joshua Garland,Patrick Garland,Jr. and Carter Garland;1 great-grandchild,Taylor Garland,and a host of nieces,nephews and other relatives and friends.
