Beatrice Jolly

Beatrice Boyd Jolly was born on April 27, 126 in Chester, South Carolina, to the late Porter and Pauline Caldwell Boyd. She was the seventh child of ten children.Beatrice received the Lord at an early age. She gave her life to Christ at Rehobeth A.M.E. Zion Church a family church in Chester. This was a family church that her father and uncles helped build. It is still a family church that holds many memories. Her love for the Lord grew as she became older. She would often tell us how she would slip into the fields to read the word.As time would have it, Mom met the love of her life, Arthur B. Jolly who was her soul mate of fifty-eight years. They were married on February 26, 1944. Arthur relocated his young family to Baltimore, Maryland where they joined the New Friendship Baptist under the leadership of the late Revered Joseph Culp. Later on after loyal dedication and faithful service he was elevated to Deacon Jolly, which gave Beatrice the honor of becoming a Deaconess.Deaconess Jolly sang on the Senior Choir and she loved serving communion. She was dedicated to the Lord and her family. She helped raise her two grandchildren, Jernar and Star Jolly. She was devoted in taking care of them until she was unable to.Mom and Dad were the best of friends, depending on one another doing daily chores, watching television and always praying together. Loosing a spouse after so many is virtually hard. Mom’s health began to fail after a time but she sure as a fighter.Mom would often say, “It’s a beautiful day”. Even though she was sick, she still had a good sense of humor. When she couldn’t remember the children’s name, she would call all of them. Bernie. Beatrice was known as “Bernie” to momma, who was her caretaker for several years.Deaconess Beatrice Jolly leaves to cherish her memory; five sons, Alexander, Sylvester and David Jolly of Baltimore, Md., Arthur Lee Jolly of Los Angeles, California and Larry Jolly of Chicago; daughter Theresa Jolly of Baltimore, Md.; brother-in-law, Leroy Jolly and sister in-law, Mildred Jolly of Washington, D.C.; a sister-in-law, Estelle Custom of Baltimore, Md., cousin, Johnny-Mae Morris of Baltimore, Md.; three daughters-in-law, Acquanetre, Linda and Marsha Jolly, two grandsons, seven granddaughters, a host of other family members and dear friends.
