Barbara Moore Washington

Our beloved Barbara Moore Washington, age 69, departed this life to go home with the Lord on Saturday, July 23, 2011. Barbara Jean “BT” was born on December 10, 1941, in Hanover County. She was the first born to the late Charles H. and Julia Cephas Moore. She was educated in the public schools of Hanover County, graduating from John M. Gandy High School, Ashland, Virginia. At an early age she was baptized and joined First Shiloh Baptist Church where she worked tirelessly for many years in various capacities. Barbara was a charter member of the E.C. Fogle Memorial Chorus, and served as a member of the Nurses’ Ministry until her health declined. She never relinquished her faith in God as she fought through pain to attend her church for the last time on Easter Sunday. “BT” was employed by Dr. Walton Belle for 22 years where she established life-long, loving relationships with the patients. These relationships continued throughout her life. Her quiet strength and her concern for others epitomized who she was. She spent many years as a home healthcare provider. She was also the principle caregiver for her mother until her death. Her love for God and concern for others sustained her throughout her long battle of sickness. Barbara was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted and loving husband, Clifford Washington, Sr.; daughter, Angela D. Simmons (Julian); sons, Larry D. (Paula), Junius L. (Karen) Thompson and Antoine S. Washington; four step-sons, Clifford P. Jr., Mario K. (Berta), Darryl K. (Angela), Rodney T. Washington. She was adored by 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. “Sister”, “Bybie”, were the special names given to her by siblings, Lisa R. DeWitt (Morris), Charles L. (Patricia), Roland E. (Blanche) and Learmon M. Moore. Barbara is also survived by her second mother, Elise Cephas (Aunt “E”) and devoted friend, Charlotte Sherman. Not a day went by that her loyal and special friend, Phyllis Brooks, did not call or visit, even while on vacation. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Barbara loved EVERYONE. As family and friends can say “no one will know how much we will miss you, or the bitter pain we will suffer from losing you. Life for us will never be the same, but in our hearts your memory will linger sweetly, tender and true. There is not a day in the days to come that we will not think of you.
