Barbara Ann Kidd

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord II Corinthians 5:8 Our beloved Barbara Ann Kidd, affectionately known to many as Barbara Ann Sport, was graced with life on May 16,1946 in Richmond, VA. to Addie Mae Douglas and Eskie Brown. She moved from this earthy home to her heavenly home on August 18,2012 at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, Richmond, VA. Although an only child, she was reared in a household with cousins, Dorsey and May Ida whom she recognized as her sister and brother. Barbara Ann was educated in both the private and public school sectors in Richmond, VA; however her love for knowledge did not stop after secondary schooling. She continued her education at Rutledge Community College, receiving a degree in Business and later went on to receive a Nursing degree from J. Sargeant Reynolds School of Nursing. Barbara pursued her career in Nursing and was employed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at MCV Hospital. She hung up her nursing hat in 1982 to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. She served 17 years as a Deputy Sheriff for Henrico County Sheriff’s Department. During her years of service she was promoted to Sergeant, served as staff training officer, managed Canteen operations at Henrico County Regional Jail West and received accolades for sharp shooting. In October of 1999,Barbara retired from her rigorous duties in Law Enforcement due to debilitating illness that left her unable to fulfill her commitment as a Deputy Sheriff. To remain active she opened several businesses including New York Nail Salon and Fashions and Designs Boutique. She also served as a Notary for the Commonwealth of Virginia from May 2001-2005. Barbara was a former member of the Eastern Star Organization and served as Chief Council, Vice President and Supreme Recruit Deputy Council board member of the Lady Knights of Virginia. Her accomplishments and achievements are great and certainly too many to name; however if asked, she would say her greatest achievement was being a mom and serving the Lord. Nothing was more important to Barbara than God and family. Her life has always been trusted in the Lord and she reared her children to have a personal relationship with God. Her church home is Fountain Baptist Church,where she served as Pastor's Aide while also serving on the Usher's Ministry,Women's Ministry,Women's Choir and regularly attending Sunday School. She is preceded in this earthly life by her parents,Addie Mae Douglas and Eskie Brown;her beloved husband,Wendall Arthur Sport;one cousin,Sergeant Major Dorsey O. Douglas and two adored uncles,Samuel and Isaac Douglas. She leaves to cherish her memories forever: five children, Pamela Hewlett, David Hewlette, Jr., Deborah Williams (Charles) Keith Hewlette, Sr. (Juliette) and Tonya Goodson (Tyreese); one goddaughter, Sherri Spragg (Derman); one cousin, May Ida Greene (Rev. Charles); fourteen grandchildren, Latoya Hewlett, Keia Hewlett, Tarneisha Hewlett-Goode (Thomas), DaVisha Dilliard, DaShawn Hewlett, Porsche Johnson,Debre`ona Wilson, Takeisha Harris, Keith Hewlett, Jr., Trevon Cook, Deontre` Robinson, Keith Hewlet,Tiondra Wright and Tori Goodson; two god-grandchildren,Dare`ra Spragg and Derman Spragg; twenty great-grandchildren; one lifelong devoted friend, David Hewlett,Sr. and a host of other family members and friends.
